Join us and take your place in space.The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) sits at the center of the ideas and data behind current and future systems supplying innovative research and development; technical evaluations during the acquisition process; conceptual and detailed design; assembly integration and test; and operational support.We are currently looking for a Displays and Controls Human Space Flight Engineer(Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer - Electronics Engineering) to collaborate with our NASA customer and industry contractors to ensure the success of high-priority human space this role you will be designing testing and evaluating the systems astronauts and ground controllers use to operate spacecraft. This includes developing intuitive interfaces for vehicle telemetry ensuring user-centered design through usability evaluations and performing human factors analysis.This is a full-time position based at Johnson Space Center in Houston TX which requires a 100% onsite work.What Youll Be DoingInterface Design: Designing control units indicators and graphical user interfaces (GUI) for workstations in cockpits flight decks and ground control stations.Human-in-the-Loop Evaluations: Conducting simulations and using prototypes/mock-ups to evaluate task performance and identify potential design flaws that could lead to human error fatigue or loss of situational awareness.Requirements Development: Developing precise requirements and quantitative metrics to measure the usability workload and consistency of crew interfaces.Analysis and Testing: Performing mission analysis task analysis ergonomic analysis workload analysis and human error analysis. This also includes analyzing flight data to optimize performance and safety.Certification and Compliance: Supporting the safety demonstration and certification of systems aspects by adhering to regulatory protocols and rules set by bodies like the FAA or NASA.Collaboration: Working closely with a diverse team of engineers (aerodynamicists propulsion engineers avionics engineers) flight operations personnel and astronauts to ensure the integrated system meets mission requirements.Documentation: Preparing test reports procedural documents and technical manuals related to the displays and controls systems.What You Need to Be SuccessfulMinimum Requirements for a Project Engineer:Bachelors or advanced degree in engineering (Aerospace Mechanical Electrical) Human Factors Human-Machine Interaction or another applicable STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) area6 years of professional work experience designing and/or testing human spaceflight control and display system for high-stress high-risk environmentsExperience in control system design software (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink) Experience with programming languages like C Java or PythonAbility to obtain and maintain a US security clearance which is issued by the US citizenship is requiredIn addition to the above the minimum requirements for theSenior Project Engineer:8 years of total professional experienceExperience leading teams from both internal and external organizationsHow You Can Stand OutExperience working with international partners and human space flightKnowledge and understanding of the NASA and/or DoD program life cycleExposure performing in or leading technical and programmatic tasks for NASALeadership CompetenciesOur leadership philosophy is simple: every employee regardless of level and role can demonstrate leadership.
