Harris-Stowe’s diverse faculty and staff provide a wide range of academic programs to one of the most culturally diverse student bodies in the St. Louis region.Job SummaryThe state-of-the-art Early Childhood Development/Parenting Education Center has an opening and seeks to fill the position of part time Teacher Assistant. Under the careful supervision of the teacher, teacher assistants will cooperatively provide a quality environment to care for children in an assigned group. Assistants must have the ability to lead the class in the absence of the teacher. Essential FunctionsMeet the daily needs of childrenMaintain the necessary and appropriate routinesUse age appropriate classroom curricula activities and management practicesGreet parents and children upon arrival and departureAssist teacher in setting up daily activitiesModel appropriate behaviors for childrenDemonstrate acceptance and respect for families of diverse cultures and structuresAssist the Lead teacher with planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate lesson planCreate a safe, supportive learning environment utilizing developmentally appropriate practices Assist with cleanliness and organization of the classroom environment Establish relationships with the children using positive, responsive care-giving and interactions and developmentally appropriate practicesOther duties as assigned. Minimum Education and ExperienceAssociate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education or 60 credit hours from an accredited university in Early Childhood EducationAt least two years experience working with young children and familiesMust speak correct English at all timesCommitment to ongoing professional development and learning Other Required Skills & Abilities Savvy in technology, to include but not limited to use of computers and IPads, videotaping and editing, to electronically collect and analyzed data for program improvementThe ability to supervise and to collaborate with cooperating teachers, administrators, faculty and student teachersTo review and analyze assessments and provide input in the process of construction and evaluationThe ability to write reflective reports for interactions with stakeholdersFlexible in convening and participating in meetingsThe ability to be objective and establish high expectation and at the same time understand the contextual settingSkill set in interpersonal relations Physical RequirementsSuccessful candidates must have the ability to travel frequently from one site to another. Should have adequate sight to engage in word processing, view screens, the ability to climbing stairs, ability to sit for extended periods of time in meetings and observations, etc. Must be capable of lifting at least 15 pounds.Review of applications will start immediately until the position is filled.
