Position Type:Administration/PrincipalDate Posted:11/15/2025Location:City Schools of DecaturThe City Schools of Decatur is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to support the launch of our new Early Learning Center opening in August 2027. This role will be filled in January 2026 providing an 18-month runway to ensure thoughtful planning preparation and execution prior to the schools opening. The selected leader will work collaboratively with Human Resources to strategically plan and staff the school build strong community partnerships cultivate relationships with organizations and corporate partners for potential funding opportunities and serve as the district liaison for all operational instructional and logistical components necessary to open a new school facility. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative leader to help shape the future of early learning in Decatur. POSITION TITLE: Principal DEPARTMENT: Primary School REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent FLSA STATUS: Exempt WORK SCHEDULE: 225 DATE REVIEWED: 11-2025 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools shall appoint the Principal. The annual period of service for the Principal shall be 225 days. PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Principal is the instructional leader and administrative officer of the school responsible for the organization and operation of the school along with the supervision of teachers and all activities. The principal builds a shared vision and executes a strategic plan aligned with the districts plan and with the objective of increasing student achievement across all student demographics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. Represents the school to the community at large; Manages the culture and climate of the school and willingly seeks community feedback on strategic initiatives as well as coordinates groups such as PTO. Leads the school in efforts to achieve educational equity as defined by CSDs Board policy Directs and supervises the ongoing development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and coordinates approval of the SIP with the School Leadership Team (SLT) Communicates collaborates and cooperates with all stakeholders at the school external partners and district support staff Serves as the schools advocate and regularly communicates with all stakeholders Establishes and maintains effective learning environments in the school Provides an instructional program within established guidelines to meet student needs within the Georgia Multi-System of Supports (GaMTSS) Establishes school guidelines for proper student conduct and maintains student discipline in accordance with district guidance such as the CSD Student Code of Conduct. Plans organizes and directs the implementation of all school activities Provides orientation for newly assigned staff members and assists in their development as appropriate Coordinates and supervises maintenance food services financial and accounting functions and media activities in collaboration with central office administrators Ensures a safe school for students staff and community by continually reviewing and updating the schools safety plan in accordance with district policies and procedures Reviews all data and testing results to ascertain student progress evaluation and determinations for intervention plans Responsibly implements evidence-based interventions chosen by the district Ensures that staff use future readiness skills and whole child best practices models and strategies to produce beneficial intervention outcomes for all students Participates in the appointment re-appointment promotion dismissal and performance evaluation of all school staff Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports records lists and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the districts administration Prepares and submits the schools budgetary requests and monitors expenditure of funds Attends special events to recognize student achievement school-sponsored activities and functions Conducts meetings of staff as appropriate to meet goals Keeps the Executive Director of Schools and Superintendents staff informed of the schools activities opportunities and challenges Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field Initiates designs and implements programs to meet and enhance specific school needs Collaborates with district teams to ensure fidelity of implementation and compliance at the school level of all federal state and local requirements for educational programs and the appropriate use of grant funds SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises teachers staff students parents and volunteers. A working knowledge and understanding of Georgia Bright From the Start and DECAL rules and regulations. Ability to understand and work within local district charter Other education or experience deemed equivalent by the Superintendent PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Sixth Year certification in leadership (L-6) Specialists level degree or higher in Education or related subject area Two years experience as an Elementary Principal that includes PreKindergarten or Birth to 3 classes EVALUATION: Performance of this job shall be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the boards policy on evaluation of certified personnel. WORK HOURS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position may require non-standard work hours (nights and limited occasional weekends) and the ability to lift and carry files and materials up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to move freely throughout the facility sit for prolonged periods of time. Adequate vision hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in writing over the phone and in person are required.
