ESC courses serve majors in these areas, fulfill general education requirements in physical science, and expose STEM students to the Earth system and its processes.ESC lecture courses provide a fundamental understanding of Earth Science and relevant disciplines. Our lab courses provide students with practical, hands-on experiences using scientific tools and techniques. Field experiences take advantage of the diverse regions in Southern California, offering students opportunities to connect with the natural environment. These experiences are designed to build scientific skills and confidence, preparing students for further study or entry-level positions in science-related fields.The ESC Department has instructional resources that include a complete geology lab, including full rock and mineral samples, a petrographic microscope, and equipment for day and overnight field trips. Through a recent NSF equipment grant to support oceanography students, we recently purchased new mobile computing resources, algae bioreactors, ROVs for underwater investigations, and student-friendly CTDs.
