Job Description
The salary range for this position is based on experience level ranging from $114332 to $142916.Responsible for Substation designs including but not limited to protection engineering for major capital projects in New York (NYSEG and RG&E) this includes input into standards and training needs. The electric delivery system in New York contains approximately 5600 miles of transmission lines & 621 substations.. This position is responsible to lead and guide all engineering activities for electric transmission and substation system protection projects within the Powering New York portfolio. Position reports to the Unit Manager but the position will work day-to-day in cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the project manager.Key ResponsibilitiesCapital project engineering execution with a focus on substation design protection and control systems system studies automation integration and settings including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting conceptual engineering contract management and design engineering design construction commissioning and closeout.Perform standard and complex electrical engineering analyses designs and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches.Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.Responsible for leading and creating new conceptual designs and overseeing the work of external detailed designers.Solve unique and complex electrical engineering problems.Analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures related to lines and power engineering.Ensure all substation engineering designs implemented by the companys projects meet applicable company local state and national codes and standards (IEC IEEE NESC FERC NERC NPCC NYISO and NY PSC etc.) .Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department.Mentor develop and support team in technical skills.Ability to collaborate across departmentsLiaison/ direct contractors on company policy standards and best practicesWork independently with little supervisionRequired QualificationsRequired Education:Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering TechnologyOr Associated Degree with more than 20 years relevant experience in energy industry required.A minimum of 7 years of technical experience in protection engineering or related fieldTechnical Skills/CompetenciesTheoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning Operations and Engineering Design Analytic modeling & Calculation understanding the business model;
