Electrical Technician Journeyman (Fire Alarms) at Utah State University

OverviewThis Electrical Technician Journeyman position will perform or assist in the efficient installation maintenance and repair of fire alarm systems and other electronic systems according to the shops overall responsibilities with a specified area of expertise. Accomplishes this by applying technical skills in conjunction with advanced knowledge and the ability to analyze and understand unique project requests. Works as a member of a team on various projects or assignments.ResponsibilitiesTroubleshoots and/or assists in repairing complex fire alarm and other electronic systems.Assists engineering and design staff with development of equipment and standards.Locates and corrects defects in fire alarm systems and makes appropriate repairs.Tests and evaluates assembly and system performance and reliability.Performs or assists in the preventative maintenance on fire alarm equipment by replacing parts testing and inspecting equipment as needed.Fabricates and/or assists in installing fire alarm systems from blueprints diagrams and specifications provided.Responds to and monitors fire alarm systems and other emergency situations on an on-call basis.Maintains various records including maintenance logs work orders time cards and billing materials.Provides technical guidance and direction to less senior technicians.Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.Cleans equipment shop area and work site.Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsJourneyman: Minimum four years of experience in electrical/electronic field with two of those years directly related to the fire alarm field.Preferred QualificationsFour years of experience in fire alarm field.State Fire Alarm Certificate.Notifier Brand specific experience.Knowledge Skills & AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of all state electrical safety and fire codes.Advanced knowledge of electrical installation and maintenance techniques.Knowledge of all types of electrical systems including generation and utilization.Skill in the use of various hand and power tools common to the trade.Basic computer skills.Customer service skills.Skill in troubleshooting and repairing all types of electrical circuitry.Ability to create read understand and build to specifications from blue prints and schematic drawings.Ability to work without supervision.Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers.Ability to work with high voltage distribution and wiring.Required DocumentsAlong with the online application please attach:Resumeto be uploaded at the beginning of your application in the Candidate Profile under Resume/CVCover Letter to be typed/pasted at the end of your applicationPlease do not upload your cover letter.
