Department OverviewOHSU is Oregons only public academic health center. We are a system of hospitals and clinics across Oregon and southwest Washington. And as a public organization we provide services for the most vulnerable Oregonians and outreach to improve health in communities across the state.The Electrocardiographic Technician works collaboratively with health care providers to provide direct and indirect care to patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiac Non-Invasive Services Department and throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include but are not limited to performance of 12 lead electrocardiograms holter and event monitor application and removal cardiac rhythm analysis and six-minute walk tests.Function/Duties of PositionProvides direct and indirect care to patients undergoing procedures in theCardiac Non-Invasive Services Department and other areas in the hospitalPerforms 12 lead electrocardiogramsPerforms holter and event monitor application and removalAnalyzes holter monitor data for abnormalities and completes report for physician interpretationPre-read event monitor reports for reading cardiologistsScheduling walk-in patients for EKGs/Monitor placement.Utilizes Philips iECG system to process and prepare EKGs for interpretation.Completes billing entry for electrocardiograms holter/event monitors.Prepare patients for proceduresDemonstrates ongoing proficiency in clinical skills/knowledge specific to specialty areaDemonstrates practice consistent with current research/standards/policies/protocols/procedures Protect patient privacy/maintains confidentiality Recognizes and responds to adverse reactions clinical problems or emergent situations Reports pertinent findings to cardiologist Documents according to established policies and procedures Provides teaching to patients and family as necessary Performs routine cleaning and reports mechanical failure of equipment Ensures emergency equipment is maintained and working properly Demonstrates fiscally responsible resource utilization and promotes cost containment Follows research protocols Perform patient care in a timely manner Productively utilizes unassigned timeAssists with other duties as assignedRequired QualificationsCompletion of an Electrocardiography Technician training course from a recognized technical/vocational school;OROne year experience assisting with cardiac testing procedures in a physicians office clinic hospital or similar settting;ORAn equivalent combination of training and experience.Job Related KnowledgeSkills and Abilities(Competencies):Effective utilization of oral and written communication skills with staff and the public Fluency in oral and written English Proficiency in computer skills including word processing and databases Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks Strong customer service skills Proficiency in organizational skills time management and creativity with scheduling patients Ability to work independently and autonomously self-motivated Ability to report to work regularly on time and preparedMust be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodationPreferred QualificationsKnowledge of cardiac noninvasive procedures Proficiency in obtaining and analyzing 12 lead ECGs Familiarity with electrocardiography and stress testing equipmentAdditional DetailsExposure to usual hospital environmental conditionsPossible exposure to body substancesFast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and multiple demandsAbility to work a minimum of 10 hours per day and longer according to organizational requirementsRotating holiday and weekend scheduleBenefits:Healthcare Options - Covered 100% for full-time employees and 88% for dependents and $25K of term life insurance provided at no cost to the employeeTwo separate above market pension plans to choose fromVacation- up to 200 hours per year depending on length of serviceSick Leave- up to 96 hours per year8 paid holidays per yearSubstantial Tri-met and C-Tran discountsAdditional Programs including: Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)All are welcomeOregon Health & Science University values a diverse and culturally competent workforce.
