Job no: 527361Position type: Staff Part TimeBenefit Status: Non-Benefited – Non-UnionCampus: UMass LowellDepartment: School of EducationSalary: $900 per studentApplications Open: May 29 2025 Applications Close: Open until filledGeneral Summary of Position:University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking part-time program supervisors with interest and experience teaching elementary or special education in public schools to supervise teacher candidates in their practicum. Program Supervisors observe, coach, and train undergraduate candidates seeking teacher licensure, working collaboratively with teacher preparation faculty on supervision protocols, and executing the state mandated Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP). Supervisions typically occur 1-2 times per month on weekdays between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., in schools located within an hour of Lowell, MA. Supervisors observe and meet regularly with teacher candidates during their practicum.Job Duties:Attend CAP trainings prior to the start of the semester provided by UMLAttend seminar meetings which pertain to CAP requirementsSupport supervising practitioner in implementing CAP requirements by providing information about evaluation, rubrics and evidence to develop a shared understanding of the candidate’s performanceCommunicate regularly with seminar instructor about progress of teacher candidate(s)Maintain regular communication and coordinate evaluation process with supervising practitioner and teacher candidateConduct formal observations (at least 4 for one semester practicum) and document candidate’s progressConduct formal meetings with supervising practitioner and teacher candidate and provide constructive feedback to improve candidate performanceGather evidence of candidate performance and complete required formative and summative assessments using an online CAP platformMinimum Qualifications (Required):Master's degree in EducationAt least 5 years of teaching experience in elementary or special education in public schoolsPossess a Professional License in elementary education or special educationStrong communication and organization skills and ability to work collaboratively with elementary school and university facultyDemonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegialityAbility to handle confidential information with discretionDemonstrated commitment to a culture of diversity, respect and inclusionPreferred Qualifications:Ph.D. or Ed.D. in EducationExperience supporting novice teachers (as a mentor, coach, administrator, or teacher educator)Experience teaching in an inclusion classroom and working with students with disabilities and classified English LearnersFamiliarity with CAPSpecial Instructions to Applicants:This is a part-time, temporary, non-unit, non-benefited position.This will be an ongoing posting to develop a pool of applicants for when the need arises.
