The Natural Gas Engineer will be responsible for technical services related to pipeline engineering compliance operation and construction activities for natural gas facilities and will encompass various aspects of natural gas engineering compliance operation and maintenance requirements.Incumbents serves as an Essential employee which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather.Duties include but are not limited toManaging the engineering design process including reviewing and analyzing detailed plan designs/technical studies and processing applications/permits change orders and other documentation for proposed development or improvement projects.Performing engineering activities relative to the design operation and maintenance of company pipeline and related natural gas facilities.Conducts engineering investigations/studies. Perform inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications applicable codes and other regulations.Developing reviewing and updating plans manuals forms compliance records and documentation.Evaluates detailed plans specifications and standards for projects; identifies potential conflicts with plans and makes necessary field adjustments upon investigation or inspection.Maintains logs/records and permits; tracks systems and specialized databases and enters data. Review prepare and maintain project status/technical reports permit applications inspections and other documents.Meets with project coordinators consulting engineeringQualifications Special Certifications and LicensesMINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelors degree in engineeringZero-Three years of engineering experienceEIT PreferredLICENSING CERTIFICATIONS and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Some assignments may require a valid Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Drivers License within 30 days of hireKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: TYPICAL KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: These are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.Knowledge (some combination of the following):Surveying PrinciplesHydraulic ModelingConstruction practicesSite Roadway and Utility Design StandardsMechanical reliability maintenance civil engineering petroleum engineeringFederal and state laws for project implementationBasic knowledge and familiarity with industrial networkingNatural gasComponents of natural gas distribution such as meters regulators gate stations etc.City bridge and road standards VDOT design standardsSkills (some combination of the following):Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteReading and interpreting GIS maps and AutoCAD plans.Technical writingOral and written communicationMathematics including geometry calculus and statistics.Abilities (some combination of the following):Assemble complex information for othersWork with a variety of individuals such as other employees vendors contractors and citizensAmericans with Disabilities Act RequirementsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the essential duties of this job the employee is regularly required to finger (pick pinch type or otherwise work primarily with fingers) talk see hear and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists hands and fingers.
