Job DescriptionATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS!The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region Design and Engineering Services is looking for an Engineering Assistant 1/2 Flex in our Utilities section to help us Keep Alaska Moving!Base Salary Information:Engineering Assistant 1 $32.78/hourlyEngineering Assistant 2 $37.78/hourlyWhat you will be doing:At the Engineering Assistant 1 level you will perform a variety of professional engineering duties to assist with the utility permit and utility relocation programs. You will evaluate utility permits and recommend modifications or approval to ensure the integrity of the road surface maintain drainage facilities and promote the safety of the traveling public. You will be assigned pavement preservation and other low complexity projects. You will identify and resolve utility conflicts through the development of utility agreements. At the Engineering Assistant 2 level you will work closely with utility companies to deliver utility relocation agreements for DOT&PF projects. You will use the utility relocation agreements to facilitate relocation of utilities during construction working closely with the construction project team. You will be assigned multiple projects of intermediate and high complexity.All positions will work under the general supervision of a Registered Professional Civil EngineerOur organization mission and culture:Can you imagine a world without electricity natural gas sewage systems water communications and Netflix Neither can we! At DOT&PFs Central Region Traffic Safety and Utilities Section we are stewards of the State of Alaskas highway corridors and airport properties. We work to manage these assets by responsibly coordinating the placement of utility infrastructure within the right-of-way. An applicant qualifying under this option mayreceive a job offer conditional upon completion of the degree requirementwithin nine months and may begin work AFTER obtaining and showing proof of therequired degree.Engineering-In-Trainingor Flex Engineering Assistant 1/Engineering Assistant 2 positions will beidentified by the employing department.Engineering Assistant 2:Bachelors degree or the equivalent with a major inengineering architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited byABET.ANDOne year of entry level engineering architectural orland surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State ofAlaska or the equivalent elsewhere.Or:A bachelors degree with a major in engineeringarchitecture or land surveying from an institution not accredited by ABET.ANDAn Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or LandSurveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the NationalCouncil of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passingthe Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS)examination.ANDOne year of entry level engineering architectural orland surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State ofAlaska or the equivalent elsewhere.Or:Five years of progressively responsiblesubprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journeylevel Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaskaor the equivalent elsewhere.Substitution:Graduate study in engineering and/or architecture maybe substituted for the required experience as an Engineering Assistant 1. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1 promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
