The Advanced Materials Group at Leidos is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern Software/App Development for Simulating Metal Additive Manufacturing Process to join our team in Crane IN. This is an in-person position. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in an Engineering or Computer Science program and interested in applying software development skills to real-world engineering challenges.As an intern in this role you will gain hands-on experience developing features for a custom application that supports additive manufacturing workflows. While your primary responsibilities will center on front-end and/or back-end development you will also have the opportunity to learn about materials science mechanical behavior and additive manufacturing processes. We are looking for someone with strong technical aptitude curiosity and the ability to think critically about engineering systems.If you have a passion for building software tools that support advanced manufacturing technologiesand a drive to learn and contributethis is an excellent opportunity.Primary ResponsibilitiesDevelop front-end and/or back-end features for an application supporting additive manufacturing workflows.Collaborate with engineers to translate technical requirements into clear maintainable software functionality.Assist in designing implementing and testing software components data flows and user interactions.Learn foundational concepts in additive manufacturing materials behavior and mechanical design to better understand user needs and system requirements.Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving software quality and documentation.Support integration of engineering models simulations and data into the application.Attend team meetings and provide updates on development progress.Adhere to project timelines while maintaining high-quality work and attention to detail.Demonstrate initiative curiosity and willingness to learn new tools frameworks and engineering concepts.Maintain clear communication with mentors and team members to ensure alignment with project goals.Represent Leidos professionally and uphold company values.Prepare and present an end-of-summer poster summarizing your contributions.Basic QualificationsUS Citizen3.0 GPA or higherCurrently enrolled in a degree of Engineering program or related discipline at an accredited University.Experience with a software engineering language such as C Python Rust or similar.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.Ability to write clear documentation and communicate technical ideas effectively.Interest in applying software development skills to engineering/manufacturing applications.Preferred Qualifications Experience with front-end or back-end development (JavaScript/TypeScript React Python or similar)Familiarity with data visualization or UI component frameworksExperience with data analysis tools (Python MATLAB Excel Tableau or VBA)Basic understanding of database concepts or SQLExposure to mechanical engineering principles such as heat transfer materials or manufacturing processesExperience with CAD tools (SolidWorks AutoCAD or similar)Comfort working in Linux environmentsInterest in or exposure to simulation tools (e.g. OpenFOAM)If youre looking for comfort keep scrolling.
