This role is expected to center on our foundational English courses especially English 7 and other middle school sections with opportunities to teach upward through the program including upper school English courses depending on departmental needs.Founded in 1922 The Stony Brook School is a co-ed Christian college-prep boarding and day school for grades 7-12 on a 55-acre campus on Long Islands North Shore. The ideal candidate will possess:A bachelors degree in English Literature Education or a related field (masters degree strongly preferred)Three or more years of teaching experienceA demonstrated growth mindset and enthusiasm for developing as a teacher mentor and colleagueExceptional oral and written communication skillsA desire to serve in a faith-based educational environment that emphasizes Christian scholarship and character formationProven ability to collaborate effectively with a team of educatorsCreate engaging SBS-aligned curriculum and lessons with clear objectives strong materials and thoughtful assessments that move students toward growth and masteryExperience leading discussion-based English classes (such as Socratic seminars Harkness and other student-centered approaches) that cultivate close reading clear writing and respectful dialogue forming Christian virtue and characterBeyond teaching SBS faculty are active members of our boarding school community sharing in evening and weekend supervision coaching athletics or leading co-curriculars chaperoning events proctoring study halls and supporting community meals. Full-time faculty typically teach 45 classes lead or assist with 12 co-curricular commitments and participate in our residential life program.
