DescriptionPosition SummaryAt KIPP Public Schools Northern California there is a need for intensive English Language support for all of our multilingual learners and for reading intervention. The ELD teacher reports to the School Leader and will facilitate language instruction using research-based standards-aligned curriculum. They must also be committed to KIPP Public Schools Northern Californias mission while possessing the beliefs character traits and skills necessary to ensure student growth and achievement.Teachers are expected to plan organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a TK-12 learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and socio-emotional potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.All KIPP Teachers must...Model KIPP valuesBe committed to being an anti-racist educatorBelieve all students can achieve at the highest academic levelsPossess strong content area knowledge and skills building relationships with students families and communitiesTeach in our extended day and year schedule (click here to learn more about a day in the life of a KIPP student)Contribute to a relentless and dedicated team of outstanding professionalsCommunicate well with students families and colleaguesHave proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom Hangout Docs Sheets Slides etc.)Have the ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in-class and distance learning (i.e. Zoom Nearpod)Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institutionHold a valid teaching credential or be in the process of securing one (please click here to learn more)This is a school-based role and the expectation is to be onsite 5 days a week.QualificationsHold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institutionMeet one of the following eligibility requirements:Hold a valid teaching credential in the subject of your desired role orEligibility for a Provisional Internship Permit or Eligibility for a Short Term Staff Permit (CPR certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross is a prerequisite for this permit)Experience as an educator teaching Black and Brown students for one or more years (preferred)Spanish speaking (preferred)Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesLead an academically rigorous classroom through activities such as: Develop lesson plans for English language arts and English language developmentTeach curricula aligned to ELD standards and Common Core ELA standardsSupport and coach teachers on how to integrate ELD into their core content areasAssess and analyze students performance and progress to ensure they are mastering developmental skills regularly and responding to data to support all scholars to achieve academic successBuild Relationships with our students passionate staff and committed families by:Maintain an open line of communication with familiesWork to maintain a positive culture on campus by building strong relationships with students and staff membersSuccessfully strike a balance of warm and demanding in your communication with studentsEstablish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessionsPhysical Mental and Environmental Demands Physical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively which may include kneeling walking pushing/pulling squatting twisting turning bending stooping and reaching overhead.Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives work with interruptions concentrate for long periods of time read calculate perform routine math problems memorize and recall objects and people.Environmental: School and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions.
