These are largely funded by the purchase of license plates and by gasoline taxes. There are 423 bridges and over 500 miles of public right of way - all the responsibility of the County Engineer. Must remain insurable under the Countys vehicle insurance policy. Must have or be able to obtain during the probationary period a valid Class A - Commercial Drivers License issued by the state of residency.EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive:Cell phones and/or two-way radios; power drills grinders and sanders jack hammer; gas welding or brazing or cutting apparatus Tungsten inert gas welding machine or other welding torches; weed eater mower pumps paint sprayer chain saw circular saw shovels rakes pliers wrenches hammers screwdrivers chisels and other miscellaneous power and hand tools.INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:Employee ascends and/or descends ladders stairs or scaffolds; works in an area in which the means of egress is or can be obstructed; has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g. toner correction fluid etc.); is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes odors dusts mists gases and/or poorly ventilated work areas; is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases chemicals flammables air contaminants hazardous waste unclean or unsanitary conditions electrical shock; exposed to possibly injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons or vicious animals or life threatening situations; has exposure to fire hot cold wet humid or windy weather conditions; exposure to hazardous driving conditions; works second or third shift; exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently; occasionally lifts objects 50 pounds or less; occasionally carries objects 50 pounds or less; occasionally pushes objects 50 pounds or less; occasionally pulls objects 50 pounds or less.Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings this is considered medium work.In cases of emergency unpredictable situations and/or department needs may be required to lift push pull and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.JOB DESCRIPTION:Operates medium to heavy equipment on highway maintenance repair and construction projects (e.g. pavement marking equipment Drott bulldozer black topper and loader grader backhoe Gradeall operates flail mower long-arm tractor Mower-max etc.);installs culverts and pipes;Grades ditches;Cuts and grades banks berm and road beds;Determines proper work methods and procedures within defined work guidelines; observes safety standards and procedures;Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment operated (e.g. checks fluid levels belts lights brakes etc.);Instructs directs trains and guides in proper methods and procedures for work projects;Sets up work zones and safety areas as required;Flags ongoing traffic at construction sites;Operates dump truck to haul crew fuel equipment and road materials to and from project sites (e.g. stone dirt hot mix cold mix sand cinders etc.);Plows snow and spreads salt and cinders;Records gas oil mileage and hours and loads hauled on dump truck;Operates front end loader to load dump truck long arm mowers and other equipment as directed;Performs various manual and semiskilled labor functions (e.g. applies tar stone gravel and blacktop to road surfaces;Erects guardrails fences and signs etc.)Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed; attends training and seminars as directedMeets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; due to the nature of the job when scheduled for on-call assignment the Equipment Operator 3 must be available to return to work after normal work hours or on weekends and/or holidays when called to do so.Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (developed after employment)Knowledge of:County and departmental goals and objectives;County and departmental policies and procedures;Two-way radio operation;Road construction maintenance and repair;
