JOB DESCRIPTION
Sherman + Reilly, the leading provider of stringing equipment for the electric utility market, is seeking an Equipment Specialist focused on delivering comprehensive training and ongoing in-service programs for operators of heavy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation while adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.
- Hands-on Training Delivery - Conduct in-person training sessions on various heavy equipment, providing practical demonstrations, supervised practice, and hands-on operation in controlled environments.
- Assessment and Certification - Evaluate trainee proficiency through practical assessments and simulated scenarios to ensure competency prior to equipment operation on live utility projects.
- Inservice Training - Deliver ongoing refresher courses and updates to existing operators on new safety protocols, equipment upgrades, and best practices in utility operations.
- Safety Emphasis - Prioritize safety throughout training by reinforcing safety procedures, hazard identification, and emergency response protocols.
- Equipment Familiarization - Provide detailed instruction on specific equipment features, controls, gauges, and operating parameters relevant to utility work.
- Troubleshooting Guidance - Teach operators how to identify common equipment malfunctions, perform basic troubleshooting, and report issues effectively.
- Compliance Management - Stay updated on industry regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies related to heavy equipment operation in the utility sector.
- Collaboration with Maintenance Teams - Work closely with equipment maintenance personnel to identify potential training needs based on equipment issues and repair history.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Heavy Equipment Operation Expertise - Extensive experience operating a variety of heavy equipment commonly used in utility construction and maintenance.
- Instructional Design Skills - Ability to develop comprehensive training programs, create engaging lesson plans, and effectively deliver information to diverse learners.
- Safety Focus - Strong commitment to safety practices and the ability to instill a safety-first mindset in trainees.
- Technical Knowledge - Understanding of hydraulic systems, engine mechanics, and electrical components within heavy equipment.
Communication Skills - Excellent written and verbal communication to explain complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to trainees.
Work Environment:
- Primarily based in the field with regular visits to utility work sites to observe trainees in real-world operational scenarios.
- May involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions and noise from heavy equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50lbs.
- Use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, impact drivers, drills, and other common tools
- Climb on and off mobile equipment to access mechanical and electrical components
- Able to stand for extended periods of time while wearing appropriate safety gear and steel toed boots
- During testing you will likely be outdoors and environmentally exposed to natural dangers such as sunburn and inclement weather
