IntroductionThe Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge supervision and direction of the States legal business acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies various boards commissions officials and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust civil rights consumer protection and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime Medicaid fraud environmental crimes insurance fraud state tax evasion and other statutorily assigned matters. As Marylands 47th Attorney General Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity justice and fairness.GRADE17This position offers a salary range of $70743 - $99889 with potential for advancement up to $110288 over time based on longevity and increased responsibilities. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications experience equity and available budget and will not exceed $99889.LOCATION OF POSITIONOffice of the Attorney General200 Saint Paul PlaceBaltimore MD 21202Main Purpose of JobThe Opinions & Advice Division analyzes some of the most complex and high-profile legal issues on which the OAG must provide guidance. The Division oversees the issuance of official opinions of the Attorney General which serve as the Attorney Generals formal interpretations on complex issues of addition the Division plays an oversight role in reviewing and supporting legal advice provided by other OAG units. This includes reviewing legal work offering research assistance and developing guidance documents and manuals for use across the OAG.This Executive Associate position serves as the sole administrative staff member for the Opinions & Advice addition to the Executive Associate position the Division includes four employees: the Division Chief Deputy Chief and two attorneys.POSITION DUTIESThe Executive Associate plays an integral role in the successful operations of the Opinion & Advice Division. This position will perform the following job functions:Organize and maintain the Divisions large collection of legal advice files including indexing the files and searching for prior advice in those files that may be relevant to current issues being faced by the attorneys in the Division or other units of OAG.Assist with the creation of and transition to a new document management system for the Divisions advice.Assist in solving problems and improving processes.Schedule meetings communicate with constituents and officials who have questions about the Divisions work and format documents for publicationManage the publication and indexing of the official opinions of the Attorney General formal letters of advice and the Public Information Act and Open Meetings Act Manuals.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: The ideal candidate will have at least graduated from an accredited high school or possess a high school equivalency certificate.Experience: At least five years experience in administrative work and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSThe ideal candidate should possess: At least two years of administrative experience in the legal field such as a legal secretary or paralegal.Bachelors degree or associate degree from an accredited university or college.Proficiency in the use of word processing software and document management.SELECTION PROCESSApplicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be included in further evaluation.
