Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:PURPOSE OF POSITION:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs and services that advance the mission of the YMCA of Memphis & The Mid-South and support the Association’s strategic plan. Reporting to the District Vice President Operations, this position oversees all aspects of the Bartlett YMCA, including a $2.5 million operating budget, 3,700 membership units, and a 55,000-square-foot facility.Key responsibilities include program and membership development and growth, facility operations, staff and volunteer leadership, financial development, fiscal management, philanthropy and community partnerships including local city government.CENTER LOCATION:Bartlett YMCA, Bartlett, TN (suburb of Memphis with a population of roughly 60,000 people).ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Operations & Program Leadership - Provides strategic oversight for branch operations and ensures program quality, innovation, and alignment with Association goals while fostering strong community partnerships and meeting direct revenue goals.People & Culture Development - Leads, coaches, and develops staff and volunteers to achieve operational excellence and mission impact. Fosters an inclusive culture that supports professional growth, accountability, and continuous improvement across all branch functions.Fiscal Management & Accountability - Oversees branch budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls to ensure fiscal responsibility and achievement of revenue and expense targets. Aligns resources to strategic priorities and operational goals of both the Branch and overall Association priorities.Philanthropy & Community Engagement - Leads the center’s annual campaign and other philanthropic initiatives, building strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners. Strengthens the branch’s presence and influence within the community.Volunteer & Board Development - Partners with the Center Advisory Board and community leaders to cultivate effective volunteer engagement, board recruitment, and governance practices that advance the mission and ensure long-term sustainability.Organizational Leadership - Collaborates with Association leadership to implement strategic and operational initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational standards. Models YMCA values in all actions and decisions to drive mission impact.Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of the YMCA and its mission-driven work.YMCA LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:Mission Advancement: Reinforces the Y’s values within the organization and the community. Creates a sense ofurgency and positive tension to support change. Anticipates challenges that can sidetrack or derail growth and personallearning. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices anddemonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent preferred.3 or more years of successful high level operations and management/ leadership experience in a fast-paced environment.Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of Branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders to Center board preferred.Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations, municipalities, and corporate partners.Y Multi-Team or Organizational Leader preferredWORK SCHEDULE:Typical hours for this position are 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, though the facility is open seven days aweek and may vary per the Y’s demands and hours of operation. Overtime may be required.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping.Some Exposure to the outdoor elements.Exposure to electrical/mechanical mechanisms.Exposure to some chemical elementsAbility to lift up to 40 poundsRequirements:
