Job Description The Capital Projects - Laboratory Design and Integration sub-division is delivering the next generation of infrastructure to perform examinations and testing on spent nuclear fuel and irradiated materials-critical capabilities that enable the enduring technical supremacy of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP). Safety Assessments oversees the implementation of the nuclear quality assurance program (QAP) for facility design and construction activities, ensuring a graded approach to quality though close collaboration with the applicable Architect/Engineering (A/E) firm and Construction Manager (CM). Safety Assessments is seeking an experienced Multidisciplined Engineer to oversee the project-specific QAP during design and to collaborate with the Project's CM in development of the construction QAP. Safety Assessments also develops nuclear facility safety evaluations, safety reports, and criticality safety evaluations to support requirements development and facility, equipment, and process design. This role will routinely interface with other Safety Assessments team members to ensure ongoing alignment in the delivery of the necessary Laboratory capabilities. Key Responsibilities • Partner with A/E firm(s) to ensure appropriate quality assurance levels are effectively integrated into the design of facility Structures, Systems and Components in accordance with the applicable NQA-1 compliant QAP. • Partner with Construction Manager(s) to plan for the efficient and compliant integration of quality into construction and procurement activities. • Perform compliance audits of subcontractor(s) against the approved QAP. • Facilitate effective teaming between NNL units, NR, A/E firm(s), and Construction Manager(s). • Ensure a graded approach to quality of technical work is implemented across all project phases. • Review and provide feedback on technical evaluations to ensure accuracy and compliance. • Provide succinct summaries, both oral and written, of work and work-related risks, issues, and opportunities. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company. Preferred Skills • Experience in the implementation of NQA-1 in the design or construction of nuclear facilities • Strong teaming and collaboration skills. • Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong working relationships. • Excellent communication and engagement skills. • Excellent technical writing skills. • Broad and successful technical experience. • Experience in nuclear safety, facility safety, or spent fuel handling. Pay Range $95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
