FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Farm Worker (2 Vacancies). Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.Fort Valley State University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution and does not discriminate against applicants, students, or employees on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or marital or veteran status.JOB SUMMARYThe Farm Worker assists with daily farm operations and supports agricultural research activities, including planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops, as well as helping scientists with research plots, which may involve greenhouse work. This role includes general farm maintenance such as fencing, mowing, and weed trimming, as well as caring for livestock, including cows, goats, and sheep, by feeding, watering, milking, hoof trimming, disbudding, and administering medications as directed.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMaintain pastures, fences, and farm equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment.Operate farm machinery and equipment efficiently and safely.Prepare and mix animal feed according to specified rations.Service, repair, and maintain small machinery as needed.Handle and move livestock, including the use of livestock trailers.Perform additional job-related duties as assigned to support farm operations.COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKOccasional travel to pick up supplies and attend meetings/trainings Work done mostly outside and sometimes in a climate-controlled environmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTPhysical activities include sitting, standing, walking, catching animals, heavy lifting (50 and occasionally up to 75 pounds), reaching over the shoulder and repeated bending.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSStrong background in animal husbandry or experience in caring for Animals and working on a farm.Experience in construction and repair of farm equipment.Familiarity of feed mill operationsValid driver's license and clean driving recordUSG Core Values Statement The University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning, as well as the System Office.
