Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJOB SUMMARYFamily Focused Recovery is Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana’s (VOASELA) evidence-based opioid and substance use disorder treatment and recovery model for pregnant and parenting women and their children. VOASELA’s trauma-informed services keep families together in residential treatment and partner with women in the community on their recovery journey. VOASELA’s holistic and culturally responsive program treats women’s chemical dependency, breaks the cycle of addiction, reunites families, and promotes the birth of healthy, drug-free babies.The FFR Custodian, under the direction of the House Manager, is responsible for cleaning and maintenance of Family Focused Recovery at Canal Landing. This individual will work with other staff and residents to ensure that the facility remains clean and in good repair. This individual may work non-traditional hours to meet the needs of the residential center. As the residential center opens, the FFR Custodian must be flexible and support the FFR team in successful launch and scaling of services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Dusts all tables, chairs, desks, cabinets, lamps/light fixtures, wall vents, handrails, ceiling fans, baseboards, and window treatments.Checks sofas/chairs for debris and vacuums, dusts, and spot clean sofas/chairs.Vacuums carpets, sweeps and mops floors. Spot cleans carpet.Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms. Refills paper towels, toilet paper and soap dispensers.Cleans windows, mirrors and doors.Cleans and waters plants.Empties trash. Takes trash from staging area to dumpster. Cleans inside and outside of washers/dryers. Empties the lint traps.Identifies and addresses potential maintenance issues.Demonstrates safe and proper techniques for chemical/cleaning solution use and stocking of custodian carts.Support the learning efforts of residents as they complete routine chores. Works closely with the House Manager to address cleanliness or maintenance concerns specific to residents. Make regular inspections of grounds, building, plumbing, electrical fixtures, kitchen appliances and major equipment.Conducts preventive maintenance per established schedule. Responsible for grounds maintenance to include edging of vegetation and ensuring cleanliness of exterior of building. Maintains inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.Facilitate ordering of needed janitorial and maintenance supplies within established budget.Responsible for ensuring that all policies, procedures and practices of VOASELA are met.Performs other duties as assigned.ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-essential)Create and maintain a recovery-oriented environment based on the principles of Therapeutic Communities. Adhere to the designated dress code as stipulated for the specific role.FFR is an alcohol and drug-free workplace, with a workforce free of substance use. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:High school diploma or equivalent. Previous cleaning experience preferred.Previous general maintenance experience to include heating, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing equipment, kitchen equipment and carpentry preferred. Ability to understand and follow procedures, work assignments, instructions, warnings and labels.Must be willing to work flexible hours.Ability to meet the requirements identified in the essential functions.Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a respectful manner, remaining flexible, proactive, and task oriented. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, reliability, and prioritizing skills.Must be able to maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.Must be able to pass a criminal history investigation (not all convictions will exclude candidates from being hired).Must pass drug screening tests as required by agency’s policies and procedures.Must complete tuberculosis (TB) screening prior to employment and be free from Tuberculosis (TB) in a communicable state via skin testing (or chest exam if recommended by physician).Must be able to maintain First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and seizure assessment training.This position is responsible for enactment of FFR’s Emergency Operations Plan during emergencies, such as hurricanes or inclement weather, which may require evacuation and/or shelter in place with persons served and staff. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:This Custodian may work non-traditional hours to meet the needs of the residential center.Adequate strength, endurance and coordination to meet the strenuous physical demands of such responsibilities such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming and preventative maintenance tasks.Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance.WORKING CONDITIONSWork is primarily performed in a residential center environment while standing. Dexterity is used while performing janitorial tasks and duties. Temperatures vary depending on equipment used and season of the year.
