Job SummaryThe Field Service Engineer (FSE) will provide routine to complex field service support for our total organic carbon (TOC) analytical instruments and accessories at customer sites predominantly within Ohio Michigan West Virginia and Kentucky. Support will include maintenance verification validation repair and calibration duties as well as troubleshooting operational addition the FSE may also be involved in providing field service and support for Sievers brand Endotoxin and Bioburden instrument product lines.This position will require residency within the Greater Columbus Ohio area and within 1-hour drive of John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH). Position will occasionally provide field service support to other customers of Sievers Analytical Instruments as needed within the larger Central US Service Region and on occasion the Greater US and Canada.Key CharacteristicsWe are looking for a resourceful person who is self-directed enjoys working independently and is attentive to details. An ideal candidate would prefer to organize their own planning scheduling and confirmation of contiguous services while balancing varying priorities. We are looking for a candidate who would employ a scientific approach to the operation maintenance and repair of analytical instrumentation and is proficient at completing daily and weekly administrative responsibilities. Client focus and succinct & timely communication (written and verbal) are key elements for success in this role. We are looking for a candidate that is technically competent and has work experience in technical field support customer support and experience in ultra-pure water applications or operation of analytical instrumentation in a lab environment.Duties & ResponsibilitiesTravel to customer sites and perform PM and related services on TOC equipmentPlan Schedule and Confirm customer services including coordination of travel and parts shipments for servicesMaintain admin duties parts inventory and relevant trainingsTake customer calls participate in territory sales meetings and service team meetingsRespond to on-demand contract services with 3 or 7 business day response commitments for troubleshooting and repairWrite clear and concise reports for customersSpecial projects and new hire training as assigned by supervisorsWork closely with Sales to provide insight into new instrument and new service opportunities as well as upselling services and consumables at existing customer sites based on needEnsure compliance with all aspects of safety on the job including the operation and maintenance of an assigned company vehicle and comply with all Veolia Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policiesDomestic travel 70%Qualifications : Knowledge Skills & AbilitiesStrong technical mathematical and customer service skillsAble to prioritize various tasks such as service of multiple instruments and administrative dutiesTroubleshooting and problem-solving skills ability to use processes to find root causeGeneral knowledge of electrical equipment chemistry and safetyVision manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to service instruments and handle electrical equipmentAbility to learn applicable company procedures within a reasonable time from start of employmentComputer proficiency with a minimum of word processing spreadsheets basic network and database knowledgeAbility to use ordinary hand tools calibrated tools and analytical instrumentation as well as handle chemically aggressive fluids such as acids and basesStrong and concise verbal and written communication skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to drive projects to completion with minimal oversightProven ability to speak effectively before groups and customers clients and other employees within the organizationAbility to meet deadlines and commitmentsAbility to communicate effectively and contribute within a commercial team environmentAbility to make good business decisions based on risk-reward analysis and business objectivesEducation & ExperienceRequired:Associate Degree in a Science Technical or Engineering discipline; or equivalent educationWith at least 3 years of work experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environmentPreferred:Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering Chemistry Biology Engineering or Physics; or equivalent educationWith at least 1 years work experience in ultra-pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environmentWorking ConditionsAbility and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on customer needsMaintain US drivers license and a good driving recordDrive a motor vehicle - significant time each day in the car driving to customer sitesAir travel required to reach customer destinations and back up support of other areasAbility and willingness to travel to customers sites requiring overnight stays approximately 30% - 40 % of the time with short notice as required to perform services and to fulfill contractual response time commitmentsUse of laptop and mobile systemsRegularly work around machines electrical equipment chemicals and within industrial facilitiesWork at a variety of customer sites including outdoor industrial installations clean rooms and laboratory environments requiring the use of clean suits/smocksPerform tasks requiring manual dexterity during tool use handling small parts and repair proceduresReach with hands and arms below and above shoulder heightStand sit stoop kneel crouch or crawlTalk and hearWork in industrial environments where background noise may be presentRegularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
