FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary: Oak Park and River Forest High School is seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker to support daily operations in the staff cafeteria. This role is vital to creating a welcoming efficient and high-quality dining experience for faculty administrators and school staff. The Food Service Worker assists with food preparation service sanitation and kitchen organization while upholding OPRFs standards of excellence and compliance with state and local food safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Assists in the closing of the staff cafeteria ensuring all equipment is cleaned/turned off and coolers are restocked and locked. Assists in after school snacks including service and ensuring proper inventory of snacks and drinks. Assists in the preparation of catering events including but not limited to working the events prepping food items and gathering all equipment needed Ensures proper cash transactions to keep drawer balanced at end of shift Conducts inventory of staff cafeteria foods and reports needed items to director Prepare portion and serve food items according to OPRF menus recipes and dietary guidelines. Set up restock and maintain staff serving stations ensuring proper temperature control and visual appeal. Safely operate kitchen equipment such as warmers steam tables and panini makers Helps to monitor conditions in the production areas and assists in the routine daily cleaning of the preparation service and storage areas Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision Work collaboratively with other food service team members and follow directions from the Food Service Director. Provide courteous responsive service to school staff during breakfast and lunch periods. Follow all District 200 and Illinois Department of Public Health food safety and sanitation standards. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Service and Assistant Director. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior school food service or cafeteria experience is helpful but not required. Previous cashier experience preferred Knowledge of safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices. Ability to stand for extended periods perform repetitive tasks and lift up to 35 pounds alone 50 pounds with assistance Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly and professional demeanor. Dependable punctual and able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment. Work Environment: This position operates in a busy school cafeteria setting focused on serving OPRF staff efficiently and safely. Work requires frequent interaction with faculty and staff attention to detail and adherence to high standards of cleanliness. Schedule: Follows the District 200 school-year calendar with weekday daytime hours. Occasional schedule adjustments may be needed for staff meetings or school events.
