Overview The State Of Vermont Military Department is looking for a Force Protection Officer to work at its location in Jericho. FPOs provide protective services at a world premier military training facility surrounded by the forest and mountains. A truly unique setting for the outdoor enthusiast and protective service professional. Work is performed from static positions mounted patrols and on foot.Applicants need to be able to work alone or as part of a team comfortable being in remote areas at all hours of the day and in any weather conditions. Honesty integrity and professionalism are expected at all times. Be able to enforce laws rules and regulations and have proven ability to make sound judgement calls and exercise solid decision making. Enjoy a predictable set schedule. Overtime work is available on occasion and normally scheduled in advance.Who May Apply This position Force Protection Officer - Limited Service (Job Requisition #53164) is open to all State employees and external applicants. You must apply online to be considered.Please note that multiple positions in the same work location may be filled from this job posting.Environmental Factors Incumbents will be expected to work night and weekend shifts safely operate around moving aircraft work in restricted areas be exposed to sensitive classified information and be frequently alone in adverse weather conditions all while wearing heavy equipment. Integrity honesty and tact are critical in dealing with VIPs installation military and civilian employees guests and the general public. Some exposure to dangerous situations is occasionally encountered. Incumbents are expected to carry firearms. Must wear a uniform and body armor.Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent AND EITHER one (1) or more years of experience in the security or law enforcement fieldORSuccessful completion of a law enforcement corrections security technical school or police academy programORCurrent or past membership of a military organization Active or Reserve/National GuardORSuccessful completion of two (2) years full-time college coursework in a law enforcement/criminal justice/homeland security field.Special Note: A current valid State drivers license is required.A military drivers license and/or airfield flight line permit and SECRET security clearance must be obtained during the probationary period. Individual duty post certifications must be maintained through written oral and practical testing and exercises.An incumbent must also be able to lawfully possess and qualify with the appropriate firearms within the probationary period in accordance with either US Air Force or State of Vermont Military Department standards.Special Requirements This is a State of Vermont civilian employee position. Enlistment in or eligibility for the Vermont National Guard is NOT required.Incumbents of this job are issued a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) which is issued only upon passing a federal background check (Tier 1) including a fingerprint-supported criminal record check. Candidates must obtain the CAC for successful completion of original probation.
