Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position and any relocation costs will be the responsibility of the candidate.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check which includes a drug screening.We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist to support drug discovery efforts focusing on high throughput assays. The candidate will be responsible for using common HTS related tools as well as novel approaches to complete primary screening and SAR-MedChem supportive assays. The candidate will demonstrate a passion to identify drug candidates working together with Vertex scientists across various fields with a production mindset. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the planning organization and execution of automated assays within the High Throughput Assays group. The candidate is expected to be independent well organized productive have a high level of knowledge assay development data analysis as well as strong communication and interpretation skills. A proven strong understanding of guidelines to ensure reliability efficiency and quality control of large-scale assays is desired.Key responsibilities:Execute a variety of cell-based assays to support early lead discovery programs using automation tools.Execute assays that are primary screens designed to identify leads and to support MedChem to identify clinical candidates.Effectively collate and interpret data systematically and make recommendations for next stepsClearly and optimally communicate ideas and results (both verbally and in writing) to a broad range of audiences.Identify areas for streamlining workflows where warrantedMaintaining inventory and visibility of supply chain of critical reagents and consumables needed for the activities supported by this person. This person may also be asked to occasionally work early or late and/or weekends and holidays. Education and Experience:Bachelors degree in lab sciences such as Chemistry Biochemistry Material Science Immunology Biology Molecular Biology or similarScientist: Previous experience that provides the knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 2 years)OR Masters degreeIn some cases an equivalency consisting of a combination of appropriate education training and/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Experience with executing and analyzing data from high-throughput assaysExperience with liquid handling equipment and general plate handling automation preferredDemonstrated experience in the use of automation and HTS instrumentationProficient in strong data analysis skills computer skills and the ability to draw conclusions and communicate results from large data setsSelf-motivated detail oriented individual able to multitask and carry out assigned tasksCritical thinking and the ability to learn and apply troubleshooting techniques for automation is keyDemonstrated strong organization communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer serviceMust be flexible and responsive to changing prioritiesAbility to work both independently and in a team environmentAbility and willingness to work rotating weekend shifts according to business needsMust demonstrate a strong interest in common computer programs (e.g. MS Office) in addition to being comfortable in learning new software and hardware systemsAbility to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced highly-matrixed work environmentWorking Environment:Below is listed the working environment/requirements for this role:Able to communicate receive and understand information and ideas with diverse groups of people in a comprehensible and reasonable manner.Able to work upright and stationary and/or standing for typical working hours.Able to lift and move objects up to 25 poundsAble to work in non-traditional work environments.Able to use and learn standard office equipment and technology withproficiency.May have exposure to potentially hazardous elements including infectious agents typically found in healthcare or laboratory environments.Able to perform successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities.BenefitsWe offer competitive remuneration annual incentive plan bonus healthcare and a range of employee benefits.
