This position is a non-tenure track one-year temporary position with the possibility of a one-year renewal or it may become a permanent position based on funding and departmental need. This appointment will begin in the fall semester of 2026 with a start date of August 17 2026.Preference will be given to candidates with experience of successful teaching at the advanced level and significant experience in the field of double bass performance. We seek a colleague who will join a nationally renowned faculty and staff and contribute to our program through teaching courses that develop and support a wide range of musical endeavors.The instructor in this position will be expected to perform the following duties:Instruction:Teach students in the double bass studio which will include jazz and classical students and may include Doctoral students and/or dissertators.Teach a weekly studio class and one jazz area studio class annuallyTeach jazz and/or classical ensembles each semesterTeach classes as workload allows and as assignedHold regular office hoursDepartment/Area Responsibilities:Attend all departmental and area meetings as requiredParticipate in recruitment activities for the for the double bass classical/jazz studioParticipate in undergraduate juries for the string and jazz areasAttend graduate and undergraduate audition daysParticipate in ensemble placement auditionsSupervise teaching assistantsKey Job Responsibilities:Provides classroom online and/or laboratory instruction including gradingAssists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistanceAssists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program dutiesDevelops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategySupervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as neededAssesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvementsDepartment:College of Letters & Science Mead Witter School of MusicThe Mead Witter School of Music is a community of musicians scholars and teachers.
