Junior Servant Leader Intern (JSL)
The Junior Servant Leader Intern (JSL) supports a fun, safe, and engaging learning environment for scholars aged 5 to 14 participating in the Metanoia CDF Freedom Schools program. As part of an intergenerational team, the JSLI also helps encourage younger scholars to learn, participate, and build confidence during the Freedom School program.
Junior Servant Leader (JSL) Interns serve as positive role models by showing respect, kindness, and a willingness to help others. The JSL assists with daily activities, supports group learning, and helps keep the classroom organized and welcoming. Jr. SLI's also helps encourage teamwork, good behavior, and active participation among younger scholars. This role provides an opportunity for high school students to build leadership skills, strengthen communication, and gain experience working with others while making a positive impact in a community-focused program.
Metanoia CDF Freedom Schools is proud to offer this outstanding, nationally recognized program for the 19th year to scholars who attend Chicora Elementary and live in Chicora or surrounding neighborhoods. The CDF Freedom Schools program provides summer and after-school enrichment through a research-based and multicultural curriculum that supports children and families through comprehensive, holistic development. It fosters environments where young people believe in their ability to make a difference in themselves, their families, schools, communities, country, and world with hope, education, and action.
Job Duties:
- Assist staff with reading and learning activities in small groups of up to 10 scholars
- Help set up classrooms, keep materials organized, and support daily program operations following program guidelines
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, leadership, responsibility, and positive behavior in all settings
- Participate in Harambee, group activities, games, field trips, and family engagement events
- Assist with distributing meals, supplies, and materials under staff supervision
- Follow all program expectations, including safety guidelines and supervision policies such as the "Rule of Three" (ensuring at least three individuals, including two adults, are always present)
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in high school and participating in MYLA
- Successful completion of a MYLA job shadowing experience is required
- Enjoys working with children and helping others succeed
- Works well as part of a team with both students and adults
- Follows directions and communicates clearly and respectfully
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills and asks for help when needed
- Detail-oriented and well organized
- Demonstrates care and commitment to the safety and well-being of scholars
- Arrives on time, prepared, and ready to actively participate each day

Seasonal, Part-time Hourly Rate: Compensation based on experience. Compensation: $10.00 per hour
