Job Description

The Allegheny Health Network (AHN), a leading integrated healthcare system in Western and Northwest PA, is recruiting a highly accomplished and visionary physician to serve as the Division Chief of Gastroenterology to lead a high-volume, nationally recognized division. This senior academic leader will oversee the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the Division of Gastroenterology within the Medicine Institute.

Job Duties

The Division Chief will oversee all aspects of gastroenterology services, including inpatient and outpatient care, endoscopy services, subspecialty programs, quality initiatives, and growth strategies. Reporting to the System Chair of the Medicine Institute, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership & Administration:
    • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Division of Gastroenterology.
    • Oversee division operations, budgeting, resource allocation, and financial performance.
    • Recruit, mentor, and retain faculty, advanced practice providers, and staff.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, professionalism, and accountability.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards.
  • Clinical Excellence:
    • Maintain a clinical practice in gastroenterology consistent with institutional expectations.
    • Lead efforts to enhance quality, safety, patient experience, and access to care.
    • Oversee endoscopy services and ensure efficient, high-quality procedural operations.
    • Collaborate with hospital leadership on service line development and program expansion.
  • Academic & Research Leadership:
    • Promote excellence in research, including clinical trials, translational research, and outcomes research.
    • Support faculty in securing extramural funding and scholarly productivity.
    • Encourage innovation and adoption of new technologies and evidence-based practices.
    • Represent the division at regional, national, and professional meetings.
  • Education & Training:
  1. Provide oversight for gastroenterology fellowship programs.
  2. Ensure high-quality teaching of medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals.
  3. Support curriculum development and educational innovation.
  4. Mentor faculty and trainees in academic and career development.

Job Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board certification in Gastroenterology
  • Pennsylvania medical licensure (or eligibility) required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or large clinical setting
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong commitment to patient care, research, and education.
  • DEA required prior to employment.
  • Academic appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor of Medicine
