General Production Worker
As a General Production Worker, you will play a crucial role in our fast-paced manufacturing environment. Your main duties include operating a down ender, utilizing a shrink wrap machine for shipment preparation, and employing an RF scanner. Additionally, you will be responsible for palletizing production, banding steel coils, and ensuring the production pace is maintained. You will assist with shear line operations and slitter head setups, which involve mounting coils, line threading, and alignment. You will also complete production reports using micrometers and calipers. Mechanical aptitude is a huge plus for this role.
Responsibilities
- Operate a down ender and shrink wrap machine.
- Utilize an RF scanner for inventory management.
- Palletize production and band steel coils.
- Maintain production pace in a fast-paced environment.
- Label and tag materials for shipment.
- Assist with shear line operations and slitter head setups.
- Complete production reports using micrometers and calipers.
- Assist with setups and runs on production lines.
Essential Skills
- Experience in production and general labor.
- Packaging and banding experience.
- Steel manufacturing work experience.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to stand for 8+ hours.
- Proven attendance record.
- Willingness to cross-train.
- Forklift operation and shipping/receiving experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in steel is advantageous.
- CTL or slitter experience is beneficial.
- Mechanical aptitude is a plus.

Work Environment
Our family-owned and operated company was established in the 1970s and currently employs 50 dedicated team members. We specialize in supplying thin sheet metal to the canning industry and operate as a steel servicing center. The work hours are from 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with a dress code of company-provided uniforms.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of University Park, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
