Job DescriptionJob DescriptionA Fiber Optic Ground Hand plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic communication networks. This entry-level position is an opportunity to learn a skilled trade within the telecommunications industry, working under the supervision of experienced linemen and technicians. The work environment is dynamic, requiring physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.Key responsibilitiesAssisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic and coax lines.Performing ground support duties, including preparing materials and tools.Setting up safety signs and equipment on the ground to ensure worksite safety.Pulling ropes and securing pole anchors as needed.Driving trucks and trailers to transport equipment and materials safely.Loading and unloading equipment for installation tasks efficiently.Maintaining a clean and organized company vehicle.Ensuring routine vehicle maintenance is completed timely and reporting any problems to local management promptly.Following all internal safety guidelines and requirements to carry out tasks safely.Maintaining all assigned assets, including test meters, safety equipment, and ladders.Required skills and qualificationsWorking knowledge of hand tools and proficiency with construction equipment.Physical ability to lift up to 80 pounds repeatedly and work outdoors in all weather conditions.Comfortable working at heights and on ladders.Ability to learn to safely climb poles using gaffs and spikes.Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively as part of a team.Excellent communication skills.Basic computer skills for equipment configuration and service logging.Ability to pass pre-employment screenings (motor vehicle, drug, and background).Preferred qualificationsExperience in cable, phone, fiber, utility, or a related field (OSP and ISP experience are a plus but not required).Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.Experience with fiber/strand placement and pole climbing.Background in aerial and underground communications construction.Commercial Driver's License (CDL) A though not requires is a plus.BenefitsPaid on-the-job training to learn a skilled trade.Opportunities for growth and advancement within the company.Competitive pay based on experience.Full-time, W2 employment with benefits.Paid time off and paid holidays.
