Description and FunctionsOpen Until FilledGENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is looking to fill a position on a team that develops improves and manages wildlife habitatand public facilities across various Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs) Public Access Areas (PAAs) fish hatcheries and elk feed grounds. This position provides technical consultation and coordination to regional managers in Wyoming focusing on the development and enhancement of wildlife habitat improvement projects for both aquatic and terrestrial wildlife across WHMAs PAAs and lands owned by federal state and private entities.The team is also responsible for completing project requests executing habitat development projects and providing related services which generally require operation of heavy equipment. This includes roads parking areas outhouses and signs.Performs fish and wildlife habitat development and restoration (aerating mowing seeding guzzlers stream restoration etc.).Coordination and communication with Department personnel state and federal agencies private landownersTMG1 stakeholders and the public.Completes projects and tasks associated with the development maintenance and repairs of wetlands irrigated meadows farm fields transportation systems and fences.Develops maintains and enhances wildlife habitat improvement projects on WHMAs PAAs and for aquatic and terrestrial project requests.Operates heavy equipment large trucks tractors and other equipment to complete habitat improvement and public access projects.Maintains heavy equipment large trucks vehicles and other equipment. Complies with federal and state regulations (OSHA FMCSA DOT ADA DEQ etc.).Ensures the safe efficient and cost-effective deployment of personnel equipment and materials. Coordinates with designing planning cost allocation and evaluation of improvements repairs and maintenance projects for wetlands irrigation systems transportation facilities public facilities and fences on these lands or for other department personnel.QualificationsPREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:Preference will be given to those with a bachelors degree in wildlife management range management ecology biology zoology or a closely related field.**Must have a valid drivers license and must obtain a Class A CDL including a valid Medical Examiners Certificate within 6 months after hire. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will provide training to acquire a Class A CDL if required.KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of wildlife habitat range management stream restoration farming and construction techniques.Ability to operate 4x4 pickups various trailers heavy trucks truck/trailer combinations in excess of 80000 lbs heavy construction equipment power tools hand tools transits chainsaws welders cutting torches laser levels ATVs/UTVs and other equipment to complete projects and tasks in adverse conditions.Knowledge of aquatic & terrestrial wildlife management and habitat requirements.Knowledge of natural resource management range management wetland management and habitat management.Knowledge of engineering construction heavy equipment operation and construction procedures for working on a variety of projects.Skill in written and oral communication and interpersonal interactions.Skill in organizing planning prioritizing and time management.Skill & ability to think critically diagnose evaluate and solve problems.Ability to listen be a productive team player and communicate with other employees and the public.Ability to follow safety procedures for construction work and heavy equipment operation.Requires strength and stamina to work in extreme outdoor conditions and pack heavy supplies to remote locations.Must be able to effectively and safely operate large trucks heavy equipment farm equipment and power tools.Ability to work alone and exercise independent judgment.Ability to utilize a computer to prepare work plans reports budgets and maps.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelors Degree (typically in Wildlife Management)Experience:0-3 years progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildlife Biologist IOREducation & ExperienceSubstitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildlife Biologist ICertificates Licenses Registrations:NoneNecessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Ability to operate Class 8 heavy trucks heavy construction equipment farm machinery power tools hand tools and other equipment to complete projects and tasks in adverse conditions.Extensive and continuous overnight travel is required throughout the work week.Must be able to lift 50lbs.Extended stays in campers.Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.NOTES:FLSA: ExemptPlease submit a cover letter to Brian Parker Habitat and Access Branch Chief 260 Buena Vista Drive Lander WY 82520 (Email: ) in addition to submitting the state application.
