Current Employees: If you are currently employed at any of the Universities of Wisconsin log in to Workday to apply through the internal application process.Position Title:Heat/Cool Plant OperatorJob Category:University StaffEmployment Type:RegularJob Profile:Heat/Cool Plant Operator IIJob Duties:UW-Parkside is seeking a Heat/Cool Plant Operator I or Heat/Cool Plant Operator II for the Heating and Chilling Plant on campus. The Heating & Chilling Plant provides steam and chilled water to campus buildings which are inter-connected by a series of underground tunnels and conduits. Power Plant Operators are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire plant in a safe and efficient manner assistance in emergency situations emergency repairs and performance of any other duties associated with the operation of a complex heating and chilling plant.Hours of Work: Primarily 2nd shift(3:00 PM 11:00 PM) Occasional 1st shift(7:00 AM 3:00 PM) or 3rdshift (11:00 PM 7:00 AM) Random shifts 12 hour shifts repeated/successive shifts or overtime may be required.Key Job Responsibilities:Assists with preventative and corrective maintenance as neededMakes regular inspections of plant equipment and prepares equipment malfunction reportsAnalyzes data and communicates recommendations on equipment and systems operations both verbally and in written reportsComplies with environmental protection protocols and proceduresEnsures safe and efficient operation of the plant and its associated equipmentAssists in the training and oversight of new employees in these and other safe and efficient plant operational proceduresAdheres to safety protocols and proceduresMaintains forms logs or reportsStarts stops and adjusts equipment settings to maintain operational requirementsCleans and maintains work areas and equipmentMay work without direct supervision on shift operationsDepartment:Facilities ManagementCompensation:Operator I starting pay at $26.00/hrOperator II starting pay at $28.00/hrRequired Qualifications:Operator IHigh school diploma or GEDSome training in heating cooling and/or power plant operations or related experienceASOPE Third Class Power Plant Operating Engineer License (or approved equivalent) to be obtained prior to the completion of the 12-month probationary period and maintained thereafterOperator IIHigh school diploma or GEDFormal training or a minimum of one year of experience in heating cooling or power plant operations.Must possess and maintain a current ASOPE Third Class Power Plant Operating Engineer License or equivalent credentialErgonomic Requirements:Must have the physical strength and stamina to perform required workAbility to perform duties under adverse conditions such as working below grade in extreme hot/cold or confined spaces and from elevated or uneven surfacesAbility to climb ladders traverse planks or walkways squat kneel bend stoop crawl twist lay flat and adequate balance to accomplish the required tasksAbility to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. repeatedlyAbility to tolerate airborne dust and a dirty work environmentAbility and flexibility to access boiler watersides/firesides and tanks/vessels through restricted openings as small as 11 x 15 ellipticallyAbility to apply torque by use of hands wrists arms shoulders torso and legsAbility to exert pushing pulling and twisting forcesAbility and mobility to move about the plant and perform complex procedures under established time constraintsEducation:High school diploma or GEDHow to Apply:To apply click the Apply button at the top of this page.
