JOB DESCRIPTION

Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator ($25-28 per hour)

Operate excavators and loaders for commercial utility construction projects, including trenching, backfilling, grading, and material handling. Perform excavation for underground utilities such as water, sewer, storm, and related infrastructure. Read and interpret utility plans, grade stakes, and site markings. Work closely with foremen, laborers, and other operators to complete projects safely and on schedule. Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Assist with general site tasks as needed when equipment is not in use.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and loaders for various construction tasks.
  • Perform excavation for underground utilities.
  • Interpret utility plans, grade stakes, and site markings.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure project completion.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain safety standards and organized worksites.
  • Assist with general site tasks as required.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment on commercial construction utility projects.
  • Proficiency in operating excavators and loaders.
  • Experience working around underground utilities.
  • Strong understanding of jobsite safety and trenching practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility plans and site markings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with 624 Loader or 470 Excavator.
  • Familiarity with equipment brands such as Hitachi, Cat, and Komatsu.
  • Experience with dozers, backhoes, forklifts, skid steers, front end loaders, and track hoes.
  • General labor skills and equipment operation knowledge.
  • Experience with civil and solar construction projects.

Work Environment

Work at various job sites across the Greater Colorado Springs area, with the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Expect to work 40+ hours per week, with a start time likely around 6:30 AM, which may vary by job.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Colorado Springs, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
