JOB DESCRIPTION

The Human Resources Intern will support an HR compliance and documentation initiative focused on updating job descriptions and assisting with job classification analysis. The intern will work with HR and business leaders to collect role information, draft and revise job descriptions, and help organize documentation using Department of Labor (DOL), Wage and Hour Division (WHD) Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) questionnaires. This internship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to job architecture, HR documentation standards, and foundational wage-and-hour compliance concepts.

Primary Responsibilities (Project Scope)

Learning Objectives

• Participate in project kickoff and training on job description standards, internal job documentation practices, and the purpose/structure of DOL/WHD FLSA questionnaires.

• Partner with HR and department leaders to gather role information through questionnaires, interviews, and/or job task inventories (e.g., essential functions, decision-making authority, supervision, working conditions).

• Draft new job descriptions and update existing job descriptions using approved templates and style guidelines.

• Ensure job descriptions include clear essential duties, required qualifications, physical demands, and working conditions, aligned with business needs and internal formatting standards.

• Assist in administering, tracking, and organizing completed FLSA questionnaires; follow up with stakeholders to obtain missing information and clarifications.

• Compile role documentation to support HR's position classification review (e.g., exempt/nonexempt analysis), ensuring files are complete, consistent, and audit ready.

• Maintain a project tracker (e.g., status by department, due dates, approvals) and provide weekly progress updates to the HR Director.

• Support version control and document management within shared folders/HRIS repositories, following confidentiality and data handling requirements.

• Identify and flag inconsistencies or gaps (e.g., mismatched duties vs. qualifications) and propose edits for HR review.

• Understand the types of role data used in wage-and-hour classification reviews and how FLSA questionnaires support documentation.

• Strengthen professional communication skills through stakeholder outreach and information gathering.

• Develop project management fundamentals (tracking, follow-ups, documentation, and quality control).

• Practice handling sensitive employee/role information with appropriate discretion.



Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

• Strong writing and editing skills; ability to translate interview notes into clear, structured job duties.

• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and follow up professionally with stakeholders.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with SharePoint/Teams a plus.

• Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Coursework or experience related to compensation, job evaluation, employee relations, or employment law.

• Familiarity with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) concepts (e.g., exempt vs. nonexempt) is helpful but not required.

• Experience using templates, style guides, or structured documentation standards.

• Experience with HRIS or document management systems.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

This role is performed in an office and requires the ability to sit for extended periods, work at a computer, and communicate effectively in meetings (virtual or in-person).
