HVAC Mechanic I
Location: Cleveland, OH (4000 Chester Ave., Cleveland, OH 44103)
Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift (Start Time Between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM)
Industry: Telecommunications / Data Center Facilities
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanic I to support critical telecommunications and data center facilities throughout the Cleveland market. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and operational support for a variety of HVAC and mechanical systems that support mission-critical environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for an HVAC technician who enjoys working independently, taking ownership of assigned equipment, and supporting facilities that operate 24/7.
What You'll Do
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment across assigned sites
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC and mechanical systems
- Install and replace belts, filters, motors, and related components
- Conduct operational testing, including voltage, amperage, and refrigerant pressure checks
- Clean coils, lubricate bearings and motors, and perform routine inspections
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Maintain accurate maintenance records in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Assist with equipment audits and asset tracking
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, suppliers, and internal customers
- Identify aging or end-of-life equipment and provide recommendations
- Support critical data center and telecommunications infrastructure

- Other mechanical and electrical support systems
Required Qualifications
- EPA 608 Universal Certification (Required)
- Minimum 2 years of commercial HVAC experience
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
- Brazing experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Basic computer skills
- Must have a personal cell phone
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Required Tools
Candidates must provide their own HVAC tools, including:
- Basic hand tools
- Power drill
- Refrigerant recovery machine (reclaimer)
- Vacuum pump
- Refrigerant gauges (R22, R407C, and R410A)
- Torch set
Preferred Background
- Commercial HVAC experience
- Data center, telecommunications, mission-critical, or industrial facility experience
- Experience performing preventive maintenance programs
- Familiarity with CMMS systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment as needed
- Comfortable working around electrical and mechanical equipment
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, and safety footwear
- May utilize pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts, and forklifts
