Job Description

HVAC Technician - FT - 40 hrs/week - $27.40 to $36.62 per hour.JOB SUMMARYResponsible for supporting the corporate mission vision and values. Responsible to the Facilities Engineering Department for providing a physical environment that will enhance the hospitals ability to provide efficient effective and safe patient care achieved by the maintenance or repair of heating ventilating or air conditioning systems and equipment. Responsible to the customer for courteous accurate timely service.RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES1. Maintains air conditioning equipment.2. Maintains refrigeration cycle equipment.3. Maintains heating and cooling control systems.4. Performs air flow measurements.5. Performs other duties as assigned.All HVAC work relating to troubleshooting diagnostic load balancing and set points charging and discharging of refrigerant gasses and new installations shall be performed by qualified HVAC technicians.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECompletion of a college or technical training program in HVAC. Requires up to ten years experience or is an experienced journeyman on this or related jobs in a healthcare or commercial facility. Experience in digital and pneumatic controls and trouble-shooting required.LICENSURE REGISTRATION AND/OR CERTIFICATION: Certification in Refrigerant Transition and Recovery by US EPA required.ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSAbility to define complicated physical or technical relationships. (Examples: operation of electric motors refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment steam pressures etc.)LANGUAGE AND MATH SKILLSAbility to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.COMPUTER OPERATIONSIntermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail routine database activity word processing spreadsheets and work with graphics.RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENT CAREHas no responsibility for direct patient care.RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROCESSING MATERIALSConsiderable care on the part of the worker is necessary to avoid damage or loss of materials. Material that could be lost represents substantial investment. Process requires careful adjustments or a high degree of attention from worker.RESOURCEFULNESSSome originating and planning of work is needed. Tasks are varied and standard procedures often do not cover the situation. Supervision is available if needed but the worker is expected to work out problems of medium difficulty without much direction.RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFIDENTIAL MATTERSDoes not work with information that is restricted to specific persons. Must comply with confidentiality policy.IMPACT OF ACTIONS AND DECISIONS EFFECT OF ERRORSOperational and/or patient care errors are confined to and affect a single department or phase of hospital activities.RESPONSIBILITY FOR GETTING ALONG WITH OTHERSHas regular contacts with general public and/or other departments to furnish or obtain information or reports. Requires tact to avoid misunderstanding in contacts where improper handling could affect results. Tact is required in these contacts and the employee assumes responsibility for harmonious relationships. Treats everyone with dignity and respect.RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS VALUABLES AND BUDGETNo responsibility for the release of money equipment or other valuables. May act as a witness or checker in the department.RESPONSIBILITY FOR MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENTFailure on the part of the worker to exercise due care or to report maintenance needs to supervisor could cause repeated small losses or occasional damage; losses from breakdown and repair could be substantial.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDReceives guidance based on general objectives for the job. Assigned duties are performed according to established policies and procedures. The employee determines methods scheduling work sequence and how to achieve assigned objectives.LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIESProvides limited supervision to others through motivation direction review and feedback of assigned tasks.NUMBER SUPERVISEDSupervises no one but occasionally may show another employee how to perform a task.DEXTERITYThe job requires some motor ability such as the handling or operation of a multi-line telephone personal computer or medical instruments and equipment; such operations are not a primary component of the job nor is speed a basic requirement.WORK DEMANDS MATERIAL HANDLINGHeavy: Lifting 51 to 75 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 40 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 15 pounds constantly. Sits stands or walks occasionally. Knowledge of proper body mechanics and use of assistive equipment is essential.WORK DEMANDS NON-MATERIAL HANDLINGOccasional forward bending climbing crawling crouching foot pedal operation kneeling twisting and reaching forward or overhead.WORKING CONDITIONSWorks outdoors and in an indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation.AGE GROUPDeals with adults on the job. Thorough knowledge of the physical social emotional and intellectual needs of adults.ABUSEAble to detect abuse with regard to state statute. Follows administrative policy for reporting abuse.
