The primary responsibility will be performing abdominal and cardiac ultrasound studies on animals. Responsibilities include documenting completed studies maintaining accurate records and performing routine quality control for imaging modalities. The sonographer will teach veterinary students proper image acquisition and patient positioning for routine special and emergency procedures while modeling best practices in accordance with ALARA and university policies. Perform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirate (FNA) procedures on patients as ordered by a veterinarian including assisting with patient positioning ensuring image optimization and preparing samples for diagnostic evaluation. Additional duties include maintaining stock and cleanliness of assigned rooms performing minor administrative tasks. Call is not currently required for the ultrasound service but there is potential for call as the service expands. Emergency duty requires being available on-site within 1 hour 30 minutes when on call. Promotional opportunities may be available through the established career development plan.Required QualificationsAssociatesDI Tech I - Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with two years of diagnostic imaging experience; or radiological Technologist (ARRT) or Sonographer (ARD MS)DI Tech II - Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with four years of diagnostic imaging experience; or radiological Technologist (ARRT) or Sonographer (ARDMS) with two years of diagnostic imaging experience.DI Tech III - Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with six years of diagnostic imaging experience; or radiological Technologist (ARRT) or Sonographer (ARDMS) with four years of diagnostic imaging experience.DI Specialist - Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with eight years of diagnostic imaging experience; or radiological Technologist (ARRT) or Sonographer (ARDMS) with six years of diagnostic imaging experience.(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)Skills Proficiencies and/or Knowledge:Must be able to perform routine diagnostic imaging studies focused in Ultrasound. Animal handling skills or ability/willingness to learn. Must be comfortable working with animals in general. Highly desirable to feel comfortable around animals. Assist with lifting heavy animals up to 100-120 pounds. Radiography CT MRI and/or Nuclear Medicine experience/training desired but not necessary. Will provide training for other modalities in the imaging service. Will need to be able to quickly maneuver around imaging tables to position animal patients and between table and adjacent anesthetic equipment. Must be comfortable with Windows-based computer applications.Preferred QualificationsAssociatesBachelors degree or Associates degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography210 years of experience as a Diagnostic Medical SonographerStrong abdominal ultrasound experience with cardiac ultrasound experienceProficiency in diagnostic abdominal and cardiac ultrasound examinationsProficiency in teaching abdominal and cardiac ultrasoundPerform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirate (FNA) procedures on patients as ordered by a veterinarian including assisting with patient positioning ensuring image optimization and preparing samples for diagnostic evaluation.
