Their responsibilities include providing instructional support to teachers helping students achieve their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and facilitating social interactions with peers. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificateHave met formal academic assessment associates degree or two years of study at an institution of higher learning*Valid Texas educational aide certificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to work with children with disabilitiesAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to communicate effectivelyKnowledge of general office equipmentExperience:Some experience working with childrenMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional SupportAssists teachers with lesson plans and classroom activities often working with individual students or small groups.Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.Help with inventory care and maintenance of equipment.Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.Student ManagementHelps students meet their specific goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP)Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.Help manage behavior of students.Supports students in a way that gradually builds their independence.Often working with individual students or small groups.Help supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom.
