Review more information at BNL Benefits ProgramInformation Technology (IT) Apprenticeship Program Position SummaryBrookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) invites applications for its Information Technology (IT) Apprenticeship Program a full-time (40 hours per week) paid opportunity designed to provide participants with hands-on IT experience while supporting the Labs mission of advancing scientific research.This structured apprenticeship combines on-the-job training (OJT) related technical instruction (RTI) in a classroom environment and mentorship from experienced professionals. Apprentices will assist in supporting computing networking and cybersecurity services that power Brookhavens research programs.This opportunity is for individuals with a high school diploma or equivalent who are interested in developing technical skills in information technology while pursuing part-time college coursework. This is a paid apprenticeship opportunity.This position will be posted until 12/1/25Compensation and SchedulePay Rate: $22.60 per hour.Work Schedule: Full-time approximately 40 hours per week. (Typical schedule 8:30AM 5:00PM Monday-Friday)RTI through an approved affiliated college program or accredited institution. RTI hours will be completed outside of the required working hours.Apprentices are expected to participate in the program for approximately three years progressing through structured training and development phases. There will be an option to extend the program to four years if RTI academic schedules demand.Note: Participation expectations do not alter the at-will nature of employment. Apprentices are employed on an at-will basis meaning either the employee or Brookhaven National Laboratory may end employment at any time with or without cause or notice.About the ApprenticeshipParticipants will receive comprehensive paid training and practical experience across a variety of IT areas which may include:End-user computing and technical supportNetwork services and performance monitoringData protection fundamentalsEnterprise Application Information and SoftwareIT project support and documentationApprentices will work side-by-side with IT professionals gaining practical skills and workplace experience while enrolled part-time in an affiliated college or accredited institution.Who Should ApplyWe welcome applicants who are motivated to learn and interested in technology.No prior work experience is required or expected.Training and mentorship will be provided to develop practical real-world IT skills.Candidates should demonstrate curiosity about technology problem-solving ability and a commitment to teamwork and learning.Applicants must hold a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and be able to obtain and maintain part-time enrollment in an affiliated college program.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (GED).Ability to obtain and maintain part-time enrollment in an affiliated college or accredited educational institution.Interest in computers or technology systems.Willingness to learn and ability to follow technical instructions.All applicants must submit a cover letter answering the following questions in order to be considered.
