Job Title: Instructional Assistant Classroom (4 Year Old Kindergarten)Supervisor:PrincipalFLSA:Non-ExemptTerms of Employment:182 days per school year; salary and work year to be established by the BoardJob Summary:To assist the teacher to achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.Qualifications:High school diploma with successful passing grade on the Para Pro exam or two year degree or 60 hours of college credit from an accredited college or universityExcellent interpersonal skillsPrior work with childrenKnowledge of computersPreferably Bi-lingual communication skillsSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptableEssential Duties:Administers scores and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students their needs interests and abilities.Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.Guides independent study enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.Guides students with group activities such as drill work and reading aloud.Supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the classroom teacher.Reads to students listens to students read and participates in other forms of oral or written communication.Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher.Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.Job Requirements:Possess and utilize excellent team building skillsAccept delegated responsibilities willinglyAble to work under occasional stressDemonstrate a high level of initiative in job performanceAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Ability to develop effective working relationships with students staff and the school community.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policiesPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
