The Program Dean for Physical Sciences, in consultation with the Faculty Department Chair, will make a recommendation to the Pathway Dean for STEM about the applicability of a particular degree that is outside the scope of these lists. In your application material, please clearly address your experience with the following Success Criteria, as well as the Instructor Qualifications.Demonstrated expertise in and/or commitment to lower-division college-level teaching, making connections with K12 and four-year transfer partners, interdisciplinary collaboration, and/or adult training, with particular focus on community college systems, student populations, and dual enrollment structures.Experience developing and teaching survey science courses intended for non-STEM majors of diverse backgrounds, with an ability to teach a wide range of general science courses including but not limited to meteorology, astronomy, oceanography, and geology.Demonstrated proficiency in multi-modal learning environments, digital fluency, and accessible course design & implementation for both lecture and laboratory components. Commitment to innovation in online/digital course design, creation and facilitation of an engaging and interactive use of online course structures – implementing for both remote/online courses and in-person instruction.Understanding of and ability to teach using culturally-responsive teaching principles. Commitment to reaching the diverse populations in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area including first-generation and science-anxious students, and familiarity with techniques and resources that support their learning and success, including but not limited to free- and low-cost class materials (OER), trauma-informed practices, and inquiry-based and experiential pedagogies.Demonstrated history of cross-departmental collaboration with regard to appropriate processes and practices across the working parts of organization such as administrative staff and instructional lab technicians. Strong acumen in respectful and timely communication with faculty, students, and staff, and mindful of professional and interpersonal boundaries. Willingness to learn about student services at PCC and the ability to refer students to available resources.Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Placement at a higher step may be possible based upon additional experience and internal equity.
