Assignments are designed to assimilateacquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical addition Nexteer Automotive gains theopportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.About Nexteer Automotive:This Intellectual Property counsel internship position provides an opportunity for a first or second year law student to work as a legal intern in a fast-paced Legal Department for Nexteer Automotive a publicly traded company with its corporate headquarters in Auburn Hills MI.The position will report to theChief IP Counseland will work in partnership with many of the attorneys including the divisional legal directors and the specialized counsel.The position will be remote and located on-site in Auburn Hills MI.About the Legal Department:Consists of 9 attorneysJob Description:Conduct patentability and infringement investigations.Draft responses to Office Actions.Draft patent applications.Attend Patent Review Boards.Assist with a variety of tasks typical in a corporate legal department.Work areas would include a broad range of matters such as: corporate governance employment and labor claims and litigation compliance and ethics commercial contracts intellectual property and other general corporate legal work.Draft and review NDAs and other legal documents.Assist in commercial matters.Assist in litigation issues.Assist with review and timely response to subpoenas and other information requests.Respond promptly to requests from the sales purchasing operations finance engineering and other departments.Summarize and communicate risks legal concepts company policies and procedures in a way that business people can use.Support the continuous improvement of standard agreements and legal processes.Communicate effectively in a fast paced multi-cultural environment.Other duties as assignedRequirements:Candidate must be patent bar eligible engineering or software background preferredCandidate must be a 1L or 2L enrolled in law school in MichiganCandidate must be able to work onsite 2-3 days per week (some remote possible) and on a multiple consecutive semester basisCandidate must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scalePreferred: 3.0 GPA or higherCandidate must be a full-time studentExcellent organizational skills detail oriented good judgment and professionalDemonstrate logic reasoning good judgment and have the ability to work independently and with a group/team; proven problem-solving skillsStrong analytical and time management skills; able to meet deadlinesSuperior English communication skills both verbally and in writingImpeccable ethics and integrityAbility to pass a background checkAbility to work on-siteKnowledge of Microsoft Office programsCandidate must have the ability to work 20-32 hours per weekCandidate must have the right to work in the US and not require sponsorshipNexteer is an Equal Opportunity Employer Disabled/Minorities/Veterans/WomenNexteer is an E-Verify employer.
