As an intern, you will have a mentor to help you grow your skills through one or more of the following activities:Building finite element models and software tools used for the simulation of mechanical static, vibration, and shock loads, as well as performing thermal analysis of electromechanical components.Evaluating instrumentation data for the development of environmental test profiles.Assisting with the planning, setup, and execution of thermal, vibration, and shock tests on hardware systems.Performing finite element model validation activities.Conducting analyses to address modal vibration of mechanical structures, assemblies, and components in support of motion studies, fatigue assessments, and environmental validation and verification.Coupling Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models with structural and thermal models. The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessarySalary Range At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. You can view the Intern Pay Rate chart here.Qualifications We Require You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:Earned bachelor's degreeCurrently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate programMinimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summerAbility to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenshipQualifications We Desire Currently enrolled in a program pursuing an advanced degree (Master's, PhD) in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related engineering discipline.Experience with mechanical static, vibration, and shock analysis.Experience with thermal and heat transfer model development and analysis.Knowledge of and experience performing finite element analysis (FEA).Understanding of principles related to modal vibration of mechanical structures, assemblies, and components, as well as fatigue assessments.Experience with recording and analyzing data from motion and thermal sensors.Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model development and analysis.Experience with analysis and software tools such as Ansys, MATLAB, Creo, Nastran, Patran, and the Microsoft Office Suite.Strong collaborative work ethic with the ability to work independently and solve problems, as well as work effectively in a team environment.Ability to work part time while at school and full time onsite in Albuquerque NM during the summerAbility to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance or equivalent.Posting Duration This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'.
