Start your future with BorgWarner now!Job purposeBorgWarner is seeking a qualified individual to support the scientists and engineers in Battery and Charging Systems at our Propulsion Technical Center (PTC) in Auburn Hills Michigan. This person will work under the direction of the Battery Materials Lab engineers and willbe requiredto perform a wide variety of testing and analysis associated with material selection and root-cause failure analysis.This position will provide opportunities to expand analytical and problem-solving skills as well as contribute to the development of new analytical methods and techniques that can be applied to various materials (polymers metals ceramics composites lubricants and adhesives).The individual will work alongside scientists and engineers to support research and development projects for new products.They will also provide product launch support and quality control to manufacturing sites.Additionally they will perform failure analysis of field return components from internal testing and customers.Key responsibilitiesAssistthe scientists and engineers withadhesive validation testing and data processing.Provide support root-cause failure analysis investigations for batterycells and modulesas well as foundational friction products (as-needed).Manage time betweensupportinga variety of testingand analytical projects toensuredeadlines are met successfully.Whatwerelooking forPursuing a bachelors degree (BS/BA) in materials engineering materials science chemistry chemical engineering engineering chemistry or mechanical engineering.Ability to start January 2026Ability to work year-round and report onsite at least three days a weekAbility tooperatelaboratory test and analysis equipment typically used in material investigations.Familiarity with any of the following would beadvantageousbut is not:Microscopy (optical and SEM)Polymer and organic material testing (FTIR TGA DSC GC-MS)Surface metrology and roughness measurementsTensile and compression testingCorrosion and material compatibility testingKnowledge of battery systems and materials preferred but notFamiliarity with safe lab practices and chemical safetyAbility to multi-task efficientlyGood written and verbal communication skillsMotivated and able to work independently or in a team-oriented environmentWhat we believeInclusion-We value diversity in people ideas and experiences.Integrity- We believe in transparency authenticity and depend on each other to deliver what we promise.Excellence- We contribute to our developments by seeking knowledge and sharing information.Responsibility- We care about our local communities and the global environment.Collaboration-We are one BorgWarner.SafetyThis position will adhere toGlobalStar Safety Program including safety rules practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner PTC Safety Policy Manual which includes the use of equipment protective devices or clothing that the employerrequires.
