Job Description

The Massillon City School District is currently seeking an experienced dynamic teacher to join their team of dedicated professionals. We are looking for individuals who:Share in the belief that fundamental to our work is a respect for the capabilities and potential for every child and family.Believes that every child is naturally curious.Values the participation of families in enriching the childs learning experience and forging connections between home and the classroom.Works collaboratively in teams to provide the highest quality of education and care.Are willing to participate in structured professional development.Are willing to be flexible in meeting the changing needs of the school.Other:Manages classroom and implements appropriate programs develops Individual Education Programs (IEPs) conducts and participates in team meetings and parent conferences supervises classroom assistants and volunteers liaison with other childrens agenciesEssential FunctionsEnsure safety of studentsImplement Individual Education Plan objectives through classroom activities including small group individual and large group lessonsDevelop and implement behavior management plans for students as neededMaintain a safe environment for all students using crisis intervention techniques if warrantedMaintain a classroom conducive to learning and free of health and safety hazardsDevelop schedules and lesson plans for classroom day allowing for a variety of activities and special events appropriate for student IEP goalsCommunicate progress through speech and writing to parents and other school personnel in compliance with state and program policies and proceduresConduct preliminary and ongoing evaluations of student levels and needs through formal and informal meansElicit input from parents caseworkers and others involved in student program developmentDesign appropriate goals and objectives for student IEPs based on evaluations and staff and parent inputAdjust IEPs as needed based on documentation of progress or problems indicating the need for adjustment of original goals and objectivesWork cooperatively to develop programming and evaluation through disciplinary teaming approachConduct IEP parent conferences as necessary to fulfill program objectives for participation in special education programming for MD/Cross Categorical studentsProvide direction and training to instructor assistants and/or volunteers assigned to the classroomCommunicate to classroom aides information necessary for student program implementationSchedule daily routine for instructor assistants assigned to the classroomInteract in a positive manner with staff students and parentsMaintain respect at all times for confidential information e.g. student gradesPromote good public relations by personal appearance attitude and conversationAttend meetings and in-services as requiredInstruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designatedIdentify and address inappropriate behaviorsAdapt regular curriculum and provide alternative teaching techniques to enhance student levelProvide classroom teachers with resource informationAttend work regularly and punctuallyDemonstrate a positive work ethicWork cooperatively with others in small groupsMake provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable termsObserve ethics of the teaching profession; exhibit professional behavior emotional stability and sound judgmentPlan and schedule inclusion of students in a regular homeroom special homeroom activities and other classes as neededAttend professional growth seminars workshops etc. to keep current on relevant issuesPrepare and implement positive behavior plansPerform other duties that may be assigned by Director of Student Services/Building Principal/DesigneeOther Duties and ResponsibilitiesAttend staff IEP behavior management team evaluation and curriculum meetings as necessaryWork cooperatively with support staff to schedule time for related service evaluation and implementationPerform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student ServicesQualifications:Bachelors degree in education from an accredited college or universityAppropriate State of Ohio teaching certifications/license/ Intervention SpecialistExperience and/or training which evidences the ability to instruct students with moderate to intensive disabilities preferred experience working with students with Autism.Provide evidence of active participation in Teacher Based Team meetingsBe able to demonstrate how you have applied knowledge and skills acquired from professional development in your content areaProvide evidence to demonstrate knowledge of Ohios Learning Standards and assessments for this job vacancyProvide evidence to demonstrate the implementation of Ohios Learning Standards in your content areaProvide documentation of student achievement and progress as it pertains to this job vacancyRequired Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodologyAbility to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsGeneral computer skillsKnowledge of IDEA federal and state regulations and compliance as they pertain to students with special needsKnowledge of public school policies and practicesAbility to operate various office equipmentCommitment to educationEquipment Operated:Smart boardComputerCalculatorTelephoneTV/DVD playerOffice machines e.g. copier scanner printer faxAssistive TechnologyAdditional Working Conditions:Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissueAssist with students with toileting needs as necessaryOccasional interaction with unruly studentsFrequent requirement to sit stand walk talk hear see read speak reach stretch with hands and arms crouch kneel climb and stoopOccasionally lift carry push and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 poundsOccasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions i.e. being prepared to work on all scheduled school days except calamity daysFrequent repetitive hand motion e.g. computer keyboard calculator writingOccasional travelOccasional evening/weekend workThis job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
