IT Director
Rubin Rudman is seeking a hands on IT Director to lead all aspects of the firm's technology environment. This role is both strategic and operational while leading a small IT team. The IT Director will guide technology direction, manage budgeting and long range planning, strengthen the firm's security posture, and work directly alongside IT team in day to day operations, support, and project delivery. The position also includes coordination with external Managed Service Providers (MSPs). As the firm increasingly adopts AI enhanced tools within its existing software ecosystem, the IT Director will help evaluate, implement, and govern emerging AI capabilities to ensure secure, compliant, and effective use.
Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Governance- Develop and maintain a multi year technology roadmap aligned with firm goals.
- Develop and manage annual IT budget.
- Lead IT contract review and analysis.
- Evaluate client IT requirements and business partner agreements.
- Manage purchasing cycles and vendor relationships.
- Define and maintain IT policies, cybersecurity standards, data governance, and business continuity plans.
- Guide the firm's responsible adoption of AI enabled features within legal software and productivity platforms.
- Provide regular status updates and strategic recommendations to firm leadership.
- Facilitate IT security audits, investigations and RFPs along with COO, CMO and attorneys.
- Manage IT vendor and service providers relationships to properly augment IT department's skillset, improve overall systems and application support, and improve information security within the firm.
- Oversee planning and delivery of IT projects, including infrastructure refreshes, cloud integrations, security initiatives, and AI enhanced software deployments.
- Coordinate closely with external MSPs to coordinate system upgrades/support and cybersecurity while managing overlap and ensuring accountability.
- Ensure all projects meet defined scope, timelines, and budget requirements.
- Provide high level network and systems administration, including troubleshooting issues impacting servers, networking equipment, virtualization, security systems, and core infrastructure.
- Participate in help desk operations as part of the IT support team.
- Maintain documentation for systems, workflows, disaster recovery, and operational processes.
- Ensure secure, stable, and optimized performance of the firm's technology environment.
- Support internal teams with technical components of implementations and ongoing maintenance of internal programs and systems.
- Support and enhance use of Microsoft 365 applications, legal practice software, and emerging AI enabled features.
- Collaborate with IT team to provide user education, document troubleshooting, template development, and workflow optimization.
- Promote technology best practices and training initiatives to improve attorney and business professional efficiency.
- Provide coaching, direction, and professional development opportunities for IT team.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths to maintain smooth and effective IT operations.
- Foster a service oriented culture built on reliability, responsiveness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible IT experience, including hands on system/network administration and user support.
- Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing IT budgets, vendors, and technology projects.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft 365, networking, virtualization, cybersecurity, and DR/backup systems.
- Knowledge of AI enhanced productivity tools and emerging legal technology trends preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into clear business considerations.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands on technical work.
The firm's expected salary range for this position is $200,000. Actual salary will be determined based on education, experience, internal equity, and other job related factors, consistent with applicable law.

LocationThis full time hybrid role (4 days in office) is based in our Boston office at 53 State Street. This position requires occasional travel to Rubin Rudman satellite locations currently in Woburn, Andover, and Westborough MA as necessary.
