Job Description

Primary Purpose:Provide auditorially impaired students with a language-rich environment designed to build an individual intact language system. Create activities for developing skills in speech speech reading and auditory training. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Develop or modify curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials according to ability levels. Work in self-contained team departmental or itinerant capacity as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: Education/CertificationBachelors degree from accredited university or collegeValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for assignment as a certified teacher of the deafSpecial Knowledge/SkillsKnowledge of language development skillsAppropriate sign language skills for instructional purposes and/or auditory skills required to achieve the goals of the assigned positionKnowledge of special needs of students in assigned areaKnowledge of Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plans (IEP) goal setting process and implementationAbility to communicate with hearing impaired individualsGeneral knowledge of curriculum and instructionExperienceAt least one year of student teaching or approved internshipMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Collaborate with students parents and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARDCommittee process for each student assignedImplement an instructional therapeutic or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as requiredPlan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assignedWork cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignmentsParticipate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basisPresent subject matter according to guidelines established by IEPEmploy a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assignedConduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testingCreate a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development studentsManage student behavior and administer discipline including intervening in crises and physically restraining students as necessary according to IEPConsult with district and outside resources regarding education social medical and personal needs of studentsAssist in the selection of books equipment and other instructional materialsKeep informed of and comply with federal state district and school regulations and policies for special education teachersCompile maintain and file all reports records and other required documentsPerform all other related duties as assigned in a timely mannerSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:None.WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress.Frequent standing stooping bending pulling and pushing.Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment.Corsicana ISD (CISD) does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race color religion gender national origin age disability military status genetic information or on any other basis prohibited by law.
