The Journeyman Electrician performs journey-level electrical work including construction remodeling repair and preventive maintenance of electrical systems in State buildings providing a safe well-maintained and comfortable environment for state employees inmates visitors and the general public.The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards as well as a safe supportive working environment for our employees.Why Choose a Career with the Wyoming Department of CorrectionsCulture of public service and a commitment to work/life balanceEligibility for Public Service Student Loan ForgivenessHealth Dental and Vision InsuranceState Retirement plan and additional savings opportunitiesPaid vacation sick leave and holidaysFor additional information regarding the benefits package please click hereHuman Resource Contact: orESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.Responsible for and specializes in electrical design installation alteration troubleshooting repair and inspection of main and branch circuits of interior and exterior electrical systems.Repairs power distribution transformer emergency generators and other miscellaneous electrical components.Performs planning estimation and commissioning of new construction and renovations of electrical systems and equipment which requires being directly involved in calculating and balancing three-phase panel loads.Reads electrical blueprints diagrams wiring schematics and other drawings.Compiles documents analyzes test data and performs electrical calculations to determine the source of problems and the corrective action to take.Uses various electrical test instruments to determine power requirements and availability.QualificationsPREFERENCES:Preference may be given to those with four (4) years of progressive work experience in Electrical Trades with the acquired knowledge at the level of an Electrician plus a Journeyman Electrician License.KNOWLEDGE: Possesses the knowledge to provide a wide range of electrical expertise in the new build repair remodel and refurbish of electrical systems.Knowledge of State and Local electrical codes.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:As required by the licensing boardCertificates Licenses Registrations:Journeymans Electrician LicenseNecessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Must be able to work in varied or extreme weather conditionsAbility to work in tight spacesAbility to walk great distances throughout the facility and groundsStanding for long periodsStooping kneeling stretching bending swatting and reaching on an occasional but prolonged basisAbility to lead inmate work crewsNOTES:FLSA: Non-ExemptThe Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) is a Drug-Free Workplace.
