Job SummarySupports clinical laboratory technical staff in the delivery of medical laboratory information related to diagnosis treatment and prevention of diseases.Job Responsibilities:As a Specimen Processor youll receive sort identify process and distribute specimens to all technical sectionsEnter requisition information into the computer system accuratelyDemonstrate service orientation approach by conveying courtesy respect enthusiasm and a positive attitude in work situationsShow initiative and offer assistance in the completion of the departments workMonitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely processing and delivery of specimensInvestigate and resolve any requested mistakes or other specimen problemsComplete quality forms for unacceptable specimens requesting errors or other problemsSeparate by centrifugationLabel appropriate aliquot tubes and transfer as defined by policy; store samples at the appropriate temperatureDetermine and enter the collection information (collector date and time) and specimen receive time into the computerAnswer all telephone inquiries concerning proper specimen collectionFollow all regulations regarding health and safety concerning the handling of biohazardous patient samples or sharps to prevent exposureVerify patient specimens such as blood urine and other body fluids with requisitions or labels making certain that information on the specimens match any paperwork received and correct specimenProperly request in the Laboratory Information SystemPrepare package and send specimens to outside locations as neededReceive sort and prioritize ALL specimens according to the laboratory policies and deliver to correct laboratory department. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots problems to the full extent of abilityActively participate in the laboratory quality plan/program (ex. investigative reports notification of delays etc.)Participate in the training of new staff and students by serving as a mentor and technical resource.Follow all standard hospital policies and proceduresRequired Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated manual dexterity and good communication skills. Must satisfactorily complete on-the-job training provided by the supervisor within the probationary period unless extension is granted by the laboratory manager. Passing score on data entry test and medical terminology test required.Minimum Education Training and Experience Required:Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; with 1-2 years of experience (preferred experience in health care related field)Basic computer knowledge and ability to pass a data entry testAbility to prioritize and handle multiple tasksAbility to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around timesStrong attention to detailAbility to sit and/or stand and be mobile for extended periods of timeAble to pass a standardized color blindness testFlexibility to work overtime as neededAbility to accurately identify specimensComfortability with handling biological specimensCaring for you as you care for the CommUNITY:Frederick Health offers a comprehensive and affordable benefits package.
