DescriptionThe College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Laboratory Technologist Endocrinology located within the Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences department. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor this position maintains the quality and efficiency of the Diagnostic Endocrinology Service. Responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting routine hormone analysis on clinical specimens assisting with specimen accessioning performing general laboratory tasks adhering to safety procedures maintaining client confidentiality and providing customer service. ResponsibilitiesHormone Analysis:Sets-up and performs hormone assays on clinical specimensAssures quality control by assessing assay performanceReviews and transcribes resultsOperates standard laboratory equipment and specialized equipment used in hormone analysisParticipates in general laboratory safety training and specialized radiation safety trainingEnsures safety protocols followedSpecimen Processing:Receives organizes and accessions specimens for diagnostic testingProcesses specimens for diagnostic analysisPrepares specimens for delivery to external laboratories for analyte analysis Customer Service:Interacts with veterinarians technicians students and pet owners concerning test protocols submission of specimens and resultsMaintains client confidentiality of test resultsEnsures clients receive results in a timely mannerGeneral Laboratory Maintenance:Restocks suppliesDisposes biohazard by properly containing labeling and delivering to external biohazard areaDocuments receipt of radioactive assay kits and properly store reagentsAssists with maintaining chemical inventoriesMaintains cleanliness and organization of laboratoryQualificationsDepending on experience and qualifications of successful candidate individual will be hired in as a Laboratory Technologist 1 Laboratory Technologist 2 Senior Laboratory Technologist 1 or Senior Laboratory Technologist 2:Laboratory Technologist 1:Minimum Education:Bachelors Degree in Biology Chemistry or another laboratory science.Additional Requirements:Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures.Laboratory Technologist 2:Minimum Education:Bachelors Degree in Biology Chemistry or another laboratory science.Minimum Experience:2 years of relevant experienceSenior Laboratory Technologist 1:Minimum Education:Bachelors Degree in Biology Chemistry or another laboratory science.Minimum Experience:4 years of relevant experienceSenior Laboratory Technologist 2:Minimum Education:Bachelors Degree in Biology Chemistry or another laboratory science.Minimum Experience:6 years of relevant experienceMinimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Fundamental knowledge of laboratory safety and techniques including working with biohazardous and radioactive materials.Knowledge of how to properly use and maintain laboratory equipment.Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.Skilled in various computer programs such as Microsoft Office Microsoft 365 VistA (hospital computer system).Ability to follow instructions and protocols precisely.Knowledge of radioimmunoassays preferred.The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24 hours a day 7 days per week and 365 days per year.
