Job Description

DescriptionThe Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which includes buildings grounds and utility systems. The Landscape Foreman is a working supervisor and trainer assigned to a crew providing landscape maintenance for the campus.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for maintaining quality of work and productivity.Scheduling and preforming the following throughout the year (around events and weather): Landscape bed maintenanceTrash and debris clean upWeed control using manual and chemical methodsLeaf clean upLandscape bed renovationHands-on working supervision of work team to include determining/assigning jobs evaluating progress of crew members and making adjustments as neededAbility to use and understand work orders purchase orders leave requests and performance reviewsDaily check of equipment before and after use for damage or maintenance needsInforming the mechanic of needs and scheduling equipment repair or maintenanceHelps make recommendations on new equipment purchasesSafe use of landscape equipment and procedures for efficient task completionUse of PPE equipment in the fieldCreating a safe work environment/Job siteAssist with hiring and disciplinary actionQualificationsRequired QualificationsEducation:High school diploma or GEDExperience: Three (3) years of commercial landscape experienceOne (1) year of outside supervisory experience or has experience leading UT Landscape Services crews during absence of ForemanKnowledge Skills Abilities:Demonstrate reliability attendance punctualityAbility to perform hard physical work for long periods in all types of weatherAbility to read and follow instructionsAbility to operate all types of power equipment (commercial mowers leaf blowers line trimmers and chain saws etc.)Knowledge of equipment and tools required to complete job tasksAbility to schedule prioritize tasks in order complete assignments in a timely fashionKnowledge of safety measures to use when approaching tasks and operating equipmentAbility to follow through with assigned tasks and following-up with supervisor when completeAbility to assess crew members strengths and weaknessesDemonstrate positive attitude and interaction with othersAcknowledge limitations and request assistance as neededAbility to lead others enforce policies and procedures and practice UT disciplinary action proceduresKnowledge of basic plant ID plant pests and diseasesKnowledge of proper landscape maintenance to include mowing trimming blowing and weed control techniquesWillingness to participate in supervisory training programsOther Conditions:Valid Drivers licenseAll Facilities Services personnel are considered Essential the event of extraordinary situations the University may suspend normal operations and classes in whole or such instances all Essential Personnel must fulfill their duties in order to (1) ensure the continuation of critical University operations; (2) attend to the needs of students and other members of the University community; and (3) protect the Universitys assets. As the University of Tennessee Knoxvilles largest non-academic department team members are responsible for facilities maintenance and repair custodial needs landscaping and lawncare utility work in-house and capital construction projects facilities planning and design environmental initiatives pest control campus event services and facilities administration functions for both the flagship campus and the agricultural institute. The Facilities Services staff provides around-the-clock coverage to ensure students staff faculty and fans have a consistent and positive experience every time they step foot on Rocky Top.
